"Stone Sloops of Chebeague", chart, p. 96. Page 67 tells us that he served
as mate on the stone sloop "Active" under Captain Benjamin Webber. Page
77 lists him as the owner of, per the Portland city directory, the sloop
"Harriet" from 1883 to 1885.
The 1870 census for Cumberland Twp., Cumberland Co., Maine, page 27
(Ancestry.com image 27 of 41) lists Stephen Bennett as a 31 year old
mariner, no real estate , personal property valued at $400, born in Maine.
