Bertram Dench In Gabrielle - from Neal Dench
This photo was taken when he was touring the country with a musical comedy called Gabrielle in, I think, 1923. Produed by Fred Warden, and written by Robert Courtneidge (father of Cicely, I think) and Helen Williams, it also starred Sybil Coulthurst. Dad played a part called Baron de Boeuff. His stage wife was Billie Barlow, who I've seen mentioned in the list archives. As far as my father was concerned, this was
the show that started to make his name well-known, especially in the provinces. Between us, Mum and I have many newspaper reviews of this show, together with programs and possibly a day-bill or two.
