CAMLOUGH
Population 192 in 1881 ------------------------
Camlough is 3 miles, Irish, west of Newry, on the direct road to Newtownhamilton. The nearest station is Bessbrook, Belfast Junction Railway, a mile and a half. It’s chief importance is derived from a fair held on the third Monday of every month, which is usaully good for cattle, and improving for horses. With few exeptions the houses are well built and maintained in good condition. . . . For the most part the land of the district is light and rocky. Oats, potatoes and flax are the chief crops. Camlough, the crooked lake is situated less than half a mile above the village. It is a handsome sheet of water, a mile and a half in length. . . . . .
