Says Marriage #2 and wife not with him Ordained as an Evangelist on March 3, 1912. Certificate issued as Pastor on March 16, 1917. Pastored in Abilene and Jacksboro, TX. Married a second time to a divorced woman after the death of his first wife. He was removed from the pastors list of the Assemblies of God on December 15, 1926.
He wrote in a letter to Rev. R. L. Steger dated November 24, 1926: "Dear Brother in Christ Jesus, Find enclosed my certificate of Fellowship. I have married, do not no whether she is free or not. I love the council, love its fellowship. But if its not agreeable for me to hold my certificate I had rather withdraw from the council as for the council to withdraw from me. So I send my certificate for your instruction. As ever, Thos. J. Bowlen"
Letter dated December 9, 1926 again to Bro. R. L. Steger: "Greetings in Jesus Dear name. Yours to hand a few days past. Yes Bro. Ray, I have maried a woman and we do not no if her former husband is living or not. But do not nor will not give any trouble for what reason I sent you my certificate of fellowship. May God Bless You. Thos. J. Bowlen"
A letterdated December 13, 1926 from Bro. Steger to Bro Gaston: "Inclose find Fellowship Certificate of Thos. J. Bowlen, Jacksboro, Tex. also letters from him explaining marriage. Also am sending 5.00 to use as you see need of. Yours in the Masters Service. R.L. Steger, 1900 Bluff St."
Letter dated Jan. 7, 1927 to Pastor R.L. Steger from the Secretary of the Assemblies of God: "You will pardon me for my delay in acknowledging receipt of the $5.00 you sent into our office and also the certificate of Brother Bowlen. We were engaged in Executive Presbytery meetings nearly every day during the month of December and my work necessarily got very much behind, and I am sure you will understand and forgive me for the delay. We have removed Brother Bowlen's name from our active ministerial list, and thank you for the information you have given. We are sorry that Brother Bowlen has gotten mixed up in his marriage relations, as he has been on our list a long time, and I believe was very much pleased with his relationship with the Council, but we have a policy and must use everyone alike. May God very richly bless you during this new year. I am as ever, Your brother in Christ, Secretary (JRE:ET)"

General Notes: Husband -
Vincent Roberts is in the 1784-1787 census for Caswell Co. He was born before 1769 and was unmarried. This was the only census on which Vincent appeared. The next public record for him was in the Orange Co Will Book 7, p. 259, 7 Aug 1797. Rebecca Reed of Caswell Co sold to Vincent of Orange Co land she had inherited from the John Reed Estate. Thus, in 1797 his wife was a Reed daughter. Vincent paid eight pounds for the 120 acres. It could not be determined when his first wife died, but on 5 February 1805, he married Beersheba Bowles. Vincent died in Orange Co in February 1816 (Will Book D, p. 426). His widow was willed all the land, plantation, chattel, and distillery. His son James was given the use of the land for two years and it then reverted to his mother. Presumably, he was of age in 1818. If Beersheba remarried, everything was to be sold and distributed as described in the will. It should be mentioned that the will stated "the daughter of my wife gets 5 shillings". It was presumed the children listed in the will were in chronological order. If this was the case, they all were born to his first wife. ID for 0: Vincent was in only the 1784-87 census. He died in 1816.
