General Notes: Husband -
He moved from Hickory Grove, SC to Grover, NC abt. 1904 because they needed a blacksmith. He was a large man and very strong. Handling horses that were to be shod was not a job for the weak or fearful. Along with serving as the blacksmith in Grover, he served as the town policeman. He carried a sliver colt 45 pistol. He was a strict disciplinarian. John's father Edmund, was born in Hickory Grove, SC, but moved to TN in the 1860's. John was born in Cocke Co, TN, October 1, 1873. John Gildon, better known as Tennessee John returned to Hickory Grove to be with some of his kin folks in the mid 1890's. Some say he was running from the law. There he met a young girl, Mary Bell Beheler, and married her November 25, 1896. She was 14 years old. They are our grand- parents. To this union there was 13 children born, one named Lela Lillian was Harry L. Beam's mother and John Bertis was Dean B. Westmoreland's father. John Gildon was a Blacksmith and Grover needed a Blacksmith so he moved from Hickory Grove, SC to Grover, NC about 1904. He was a large man and was very strong. Handling horses that were to be shod was not a job for the weak or fearful. Along with serving as the blacksmith in Grover, he served as the town policeman. He carried a silver colt 45 pistol. After his death Grandmother kept his pistol. I saw her shoot at an intruder who was trespassing around her barn at the back of the house located on Hwy 29 north of Grover. Tennessee John was a strict disciplinarian. With 13 children some one had to be. I have heard my father Bert tell many tales of how when "Poppa" whipped one, he whipped them all. They were not allowed to laugh, giggle or talk at meals. This rule often led to Grandfather clearing the dining room by pointing toward the door when someone "sniggered". He bought pintos in 100 pound bags, flour and corn meal in 100 pound bags. Grandmother managed the home and cooked for Grandfather, herself and the children. They had a large, long table in the dining room. On the back side was a movable bench. After Grandmother's death, my father Bert, took the table cut it down and used the legs and supports, put a lazy Susan in the middle and that table was our table for some 40 years and remains in my possession until this day. I wish I had a nickle for every biscuit that had crossed that tabletop on the way to quench some Westmoreland's hunger. Written by Dean B. Westmoreland, about his Grandfather John Gildon.
General Notes: Wife -
She had snow white hair and short stature. She was heavy set. She read a lot.
Grandfather John Gildon passed away from complications from diabetes 9 years before I was born. So, in fact, I only remember Grandmother Westmoreland as I always called her. She was known as "Granny" to mostly everyone in Grover.
One of my earliest memories, was once in the first grade at Grover School, I got tired of first grade work and ran away to Grandmother's house. I told her I was never going there again. She talked me into going back to school so I could ride the school bus home. I went back to school. That was my first time to leave school, first whipping at school and the last of both.
I remember her snow white hair and her short stature. She was heavy set but was just right for little boys to hug when things went wrong and only grandmothers could fix them. She read lot, she listened to the "soaps" on the radio and talked on the ever present phone. I remember when she got her phone. It was a party line with eight other families. It was an ever present source of irritation with her. I Remember Uncle Bill coming home,and even with the scarcity of Television sets at that time, when she said, "I want a television.", he got her one. She really enjoyed it.
She loved Elvis Presley and was furious when people criticized him. When he made "Love Me Tender" she called me and said Elvis' movie is at the drive in and I want to go." I had just learned to drive so away we went, a sixteen year old and his grandmother going to the drive-in theater. No body ever had a better time in a drive-in than Grandmother.
I was drafted into the US Army in December of 1958. At this time we were in the depths of the cold war and I spent much of my time in Europe on the front which was the border between the communist and western forces. in November of 1959 I was sent for a long term at the front and when I returned to the base, at the end of November, I learned that Grandmother had passed away. It was a long and sad time for me for a large part of my early life was gone. Daniel Krick, son of Francis and Hannah (Gehrling) Krick, was born Oct. 2 8, 1804, in Spring township, and there passed his life engaged in farming. About a year before his death he moved with his son, Henry B., to a farm in Lower Heidelberg, near the Cacoosing where he died April 16, 1864. In 1833 he married Susan Bohn, daughter of George Bohn (son of Frederick Bohn), of Bern township, and she survived him many years, making her home with her son Adam, in Sinking Spring. She died Aug. 19, 1887. To Daniel and Susan (Bohn) Krick were born children as follows: James, born Jan. 12, 1834, died July 26, 1834; Lydia born May 31, 1835, m. William R. High; Adam B. is mentioned below; Henry B., born Jan. 16, 1839, died Aug. 3, 1906; Mary E., born Jan. 6, 1851, died May 19, 1902.

Cliff Muci will officiate. Friends may call at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home until 8 tonight. The family will be present from 6 to 8. Memorials have been established with the Douglass Christian Church and Douglass Public Library. Bohrer was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Lyons, to Ruth (Wickerham) and Orlin Dean Bohrer. The family moved to El Dorado where he graduated from high school and El Dorado Junior College. He also graduated from the University of Colorado and Midwest Dental College in Kansas City. During World War II, Bohrer served as a captain in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he opened a dental office in Douglass where he practiced for 40 years until retiring in 1985. In 1939 Bohrer married Rachal G. Boyer. She died in 1975. He later married Winifred Roberts who died in 1987. Bohrer was a member of the Douglass Christian Church, Paltos Masonic Lodge in El Dorado, the Butler County, Kansas and American dental associations and the American Legion. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Newby, Olathe; a son, Dr. Stephen Bohrer, Dodge City; a sister, Ruth Conley, Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
