General Notes: Husband -

(from posting on GenForum by Janine Westmoreland Malone) Zadock Ford Westmoreland is my gggf. I know that he and his 2nd wife went to TX after he lost his tavern and plantation is SC due to uncollected debts. Accoring to the Robertson family history, he and his 2nd wife died of yellow fever in their log cabin somewhere near the Red River, west of the Mississippi in TX. Also, according to the history, his children and some of the nearest inhabitants had to fight the wolves away while the bodies were in the house. The children were taken to Vicksburg, MS where their uncle, John Latimer Westmoreland met them with wagons and brought them back to Greenville, SC to live with his family

[Norman moved with his parents to Peoria Co, IL in 1836, then to Hamlet, P erryton Twp, Mercer Co, IL in 1837 where they settled. During the 1850 U.S. Census, he was living with his brother, Elias B. Wood, in Millersburg, Mercer Co, IL and was shown as a "laborer". During the 1860 U.S. Census, he and his family were living with his parents in Hamlet, Perryton Twp, Mercer Co, IL. Norman paid taxes on "the west half of the southeast quarter of section 23" from 1859 thru 1875 and "the northeast quarter of section 26" from 1866 thru 1875, all in Mercer Co, IL. During the 1870 U.S. Census, he was living in Hamlet, Perryton Twp, Mercer Co, IL, a farmer. in spring of 1876, he moved his family from Mercer Co, IL to a farm about 2½ miles north west of Ainsworth in OR Twp, Washington Co, IA During the 1880 and 1900 U.S. Census, they were living and farming in OR Twp, Washington Co, IA He farmed there until he retired and moved to Washington, IA, 1015 E. His claim as to his injury is in part as follows: "…IN the service and in the line of duty at or near Elk River in the State of TN on or about the first day of March 1864 he was building Bridges and while carrying lumber a Stack of lumber fell on his back disabling him and internally injuring his back continuously which caused the disease of Rheumatism which still exists causing him much pain and partially disabling him from work. That he was not treated in any Hospital but was sick from said injury to his back and was medically treated for said injury by some Surgeon whose name to him is unknown and that by reason of said injury he was unable to perform military duty" "That prior to his entry into the service above named he was a man of good sound physical health being when enrolled a Farmer. That he is now partially disabled from obtaining his subsistence by means of labor by reason of his injuries…". The Will of Norman Foster Wood. KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That I, N. F. Wood of Washington, IA, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making null and void any and all former wills by me at any time made.
1. I will and direct that all of my just debts, funeral expenses, expenses of my last sickness and of the administration of my estate be paid.
2. I give, devise and bequeath to my wife, Anna Wood, the use and income of my entire estate so long as she shall live, and I further direct that should the income from my estate not be sufficient for the proper care, maintenance and support of my said wife, that a sufficient sum as directed by court, shall be taken from the principal and paid to her to properly care for and support her during her natural life time, this to be in lieu of her dower.
3. After the death of my said wife, Anna Wood, I will and direct that my executor hereinafter named, convert my estate, both real and personal, into cash, and I give, devise and bequeath the proceeds thereof in equal shares, share and share alike to my six children, Willis Wood, F. M. Wood, Frank Wood, Linas A. Wood, Mary Crozier and Etta Black, and I further direct that after the death of my said wife, my household goods and personal property be appraised, and that any articles any of my children may wish in kind be turned to them at the appraised value.
4. I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my son, Frank Wood, as executor of this my will, and I exonerate him from giving bond as such executor, and I further hereby authorize, empower and direct my said executor to sell, deed and convey any and all real estate of which I may died seized without order of court for the purpose of converting the same into cash to make distribution under this my will.

Copy in possession of compiler.)] *[Mrs. Wood Nearly 96, Dies Sunday, One of the Oldest Persons in Co Succumbs, Funeral is Wednesday, Mrs. Norman F. Wood, who would have been 96 years old a week from Wednesday, died at 12:25 Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Crozier, just east of Washington. She was one of the oldest persons in Washington Co. Mrs. Wood had been losing in strength in recent years, due to her advanced age, and had declined rapidly in the last two weeks, but was not ill in any noticeable way during that time, merely losing her remaining strength until she passed peacefully away, after nearly a century of useful living. Her mental condition was good and she enjoyed life during the final years. The body was taken to the L. A. Jones funeral home, where plans were made for the funeral services, to be held in the Baptist church here at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, in charge of her pastor, Rev. A. A. Vinz. Burial will be in the Ainsworth Cemetery. The family asks friends to omit flowers. Anna S. Welliever was born March 22, 1837, in New York state, and came with her parents to IL when she was 17 years old. She was married at Rock Island Oct. 29, 1867, to Norman F. Wood and they made their home in Mercer Co, IL, until February 1876, when the family moved to a farm two miles northeast of Ainsworth, where they lived until Mr. Wood's death August 9, 1922, since when she had made her home with her children. She had been at the Crozier home since the first of March. Three children survive, Mrs. Crozier, Frank I. Wood of Ainsworth and Linas Wood of Washington. There are twelve grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and five great great grand children. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Baptist church, having been connected with that denomination for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Relief Corps. in both these organizations she took a lively and devoted interest, which she maintained to the last.
