Charles Westmoreland - WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ? Charles Wade Westmoreland, Sr., 93 of Heritage Woods, died at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on Saturday, August 12, 2006 after a period of declining health.

He was born in Rural Hall, NC on February 1, 1913 to the late Cora B. and Jasper Eugene Westmoreland. In 1940, he married Doris Shelton Westmoreland and shared a happy contented life with her at their home at 1042 Ebert St. in Ardmore until her death in 1998. In 1975, Mr. Westmoreland retired from Atlantic Greyhound Corporation after 37 years of service. He then had plenty of time to enjoy golfing with his friends, gardening and playing with his grandchildren.

For over 60 years, he was an active member of Ardmore United Methodist Church. He especially enjoyed the Kerr Wesley Sunday School Class and the Ardmore Methodist Men?s Club. He was a member of the Masonic Salem Lodge and was a 32 degree Mason.

Preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Caroline Johnson Westmoreland and by his sisters, Blanche Pegram, Florence Andes, Ruby Ferguson, and Margaret Carter Coram.

Surviving are his children, Diane W. Haynes of Johnson City, Tennessee, Chuck Westmoreland of Mt. Airy, NC and Elaine White and husband Joe of W-S; grandchildren, Shelton Haynes Shelton and husband Rick of Knoxville, Tennessee, Olen Haynes, Jr. and wife Kristy of Johnson City, Tennessee, Adam Westmoreland of Charlotte, NC, and Wesley Haynes of Johnson City, Tennessee; a great-grandson Tripp Haynes of Johnson City, Tennessee and a great-grandson and great-granddaughter soon to be born.

His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss him greatly.

A celebration of life service will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Ardmore United Methodist Church with Dr. John Franklin Howard, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts are made to Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Rd. W-S, NC 27103 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane W-S, NC 27103.

His family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Alvin Brown, a saint of God, who befriended and assisted their father while living at Heritage Woods. They also extend their thanks to Dr. Oliver Tu, to the staffs at Heritage Woods Retirement Center, Tendercare, and to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

MADISON - Kathleen Shelton Wilson, 79, of 169 Wilbert Drive, Madison, passed into eternal life on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Wesley Long Hospital, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Wilson was born March 28, 1926, in Rockingham County to the late Grady Hassell Shelton Sr. and the late Annie Powell Shelton. She was a devoted wife, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived her life for her family and her church. She was a member of Eden United Methodist Church for 55 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, membership secretary, church treasurer, building fund treasurer and a member of the UMW. She also enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Ladies Golf Association of Deep Springs Country Club. Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Raymond L. Wilson, of the home; a son, Don Wilson, and wife Nancy of Madison; a daughter, Kathy McMillan, and husband Gary of Stedman; grandchildren Amy and Alex Nicholson and Alison and William Keever, all of Raleigh, Natalie and Jeff Sechrist of Stokesdale and Ryan and Elizabeth Tysor of Suffolk, Va.; great-grandchildren Caroline and Will Keever and Jacob and Crosby Nicholson, all of Raleigh, and Anna Sechrist of Stokesdale; brothers Grady Shelton and wife Joe Anne of Madison, Thomas Shelton and wife Kaye of Winston-Salem and Ray Shelton and wife Delores of Greensboro; and sisters Peggy and husband Floyd Martin of Madison and Faye and husband Dr. Floyd Short of Seattle, Wash. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Eden United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, Sept. 17, at Colonial Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
