William was placed as the second son of Henry, p.73. He first appear ed in the Johnston Co deeds in 1750. in 1758 William Roberts and Andrew Adams were in a land deal (Book 5,p.653). This was cross-indexed in the Dobbs Co records. in the same volume, p.497,1858, William sold land to Ed Carter. Henry Roberts also had dealings with Ed Carter. The same volume records that William bought land from Charles Young. (p.496,l759). in 1759 he also had a land grant of two hundred acres from the State. in 1764, William bought land in Orange Co, NC. Apparently William did not pay taxes in Orange Co. If he owned no land, he would not pay taxes. His children should have been born in Orange Co. No land transaction was found for him in Caswell Co. There was a William Roberts listed in the 1790 census in Caswell Co, on the same page as Vincent Roberts, son of John. The 1810 census lists him on the same pages as John Jr., Leavin, Pascil, Thomas, Sr. and Thomas, Jr. It is therefore, concluded that he was of this clan. To be of this clan, his father William died in Orange Co or Caswell Co before the 1784 census, and it is not known if there was more than one son. A William Roberts witnessed a will in Orange Co in 1780. This could be William, Sr. as William, Jr. was born 1765-1784. If this reasoning is correct, William Jr. went to Caswell Co to be near his cousins. A search of Orange Co census records for 1810 and 1820 revealed no unidentifiable Roberts. If there were brothers, they did not stay in Orange Co. According to the Census records, these could be members of the William Roberts Jr. family. His number is 01 as he was the only known member Wm. Roberts was not found in NC after 1830. He may have died

General Notes: Husband -
Mr. Roberts was a lifelong member of Eden United Methodist Church. During World War II, he served in the
U.S. Army in the South Pacific. In the late 1960s, he helped form the Stokes-Rockingham Volunteer Fire
Department and served as the first fire chief. Later in life, he was very involved in the Pine HALL
Community Club. He was owner and operator of Roberts Construction Co. and spent his life "moving
Mother Earth," with his bulldozer, his backhoe, and after retirement, with his farm tractor and garden hoe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Eugene Roberts; and his sister,
Carolyn Roberts Hartman.
Mrs. Susan Trent Roberts, his loving wife of 59 years, survives him. Mr. Roberts is also survived by his
children, Penny Farmer and husband Andy, Connie Brown, Jackie Roberts, and Lisa Ore, all of Pine hall,
and William Ralph (Billy) Roberts Jr. and wife Lynn of Winston-Salem. He was the proud grandfather of
Abby and Jessy Farmer, Gil and Will Brown, Luci and Ben Ore and Caroline Roberts.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Eden United Methodist Church of Madison.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Roberts will be in the church fellowship hall from 5 to 8
p.m. today, Sept. 16. The family will begin receiving friends at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall through 8 p.m.,
and all other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to Eden United Methodist Church Building
Fund, 844 Eden Church Road, Madison, NC 27025. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the
family.

Bernice Woods BETHALTO 09/16/2004 Bernice B. Woods, 81, died and went to be with the Lord at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Marmaduke, Ark., to James and Molly (Brewer) Robertson.
She married Herschel L. Woods on July 26, 1945, in Ventura, Calif. He died on June 23, 2000.
She was a homemaker and member of the East Side Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Ark., where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served as a youth leader at Tinley Park in Chicago. Recently, she attended the First Baptist Church of Bethalto.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Jim and Edwina Woods of North Aurora, Ill., and Pastor Ron and Debbie Woods of Bethalto; five grandchildren, Tanya, Jason, Kelli, Scott and Christopher; one stepgrandchild, Jackie; and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Hannah and Camryn.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, the Rev. Charlie Robertson and Garlan Robertson; and three sisters, Verneal Hampton, Edna Gilmore and Dathyl Gilmore.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until services at 8 p.m. today at Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Pastors Ron and Jim Woods will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Baxter Memorial Cemetery in Mountain Home, Ark.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bethalto youth fund
