General Notes: Husband -

He was large in stature though not as tall as most of his brothers. He po ssessed the typical wit and outgoing personality of the Westmoreland's. He worked for many years in the cotton mills in the surrounding area. Jesse Floyd was the fifth child and the third son of John Gildon and Mary Bell Boheler Westmoreland. He was large in stature though not as tall as most of his brothers. He possessed the typical wit and outgoing personality of the Westmorelands. He worked for many years in the cotton mills in the surrounding area. He served a term in the US Army. IN Jesse Floyd's later years he served as the Grover Town policeman. Here is another example of a son following in the father's footsteps. He was a policeman along the lines of Sheriff Andy Taylor on television's "Andy Griffith Show". There was not much to do in the lines of law enforcement of Grover in the fifties except minor infractions that usually were solved by a suggestion or an admonition. He most often used homespun psychology and humor than force. He was not, however, above using force when needed. On one occasion Uncle Jesse did shoot an errant interloper in the thigh when he became rather boisterous in resisting arrest. The man was not seriously injured but when he recovered, he took Uncle Jesse to court. Uncle Jesse hated socks and simply refused to wear them. in the trial, the district attorney berated Uncle Jesse for coming to court without socks. Uncle Jesse told the court that, "Socks have nothing to do with anything." The judge ruled that he had just cause to use his sidearm and dismissed the case. He married Nina Roark and they had a largely happy marriage although they were susceptible to eruptions of quick and fierce spats which were usually forgotten within a few minutes. They lived in a small very neat house across the road from Grandmother Westmoreland's house on the north side of Grover. Nina was a matchless cook and Uncle Jesse encouraged her to cook and enjoyed the results of her efforts to the fullest. Written by Dean B. Westmoreland, about his Uncle Jesse.

Clint Roberds Dies Sunday
Three Rivers, Texas. Clint Roberds, 78, died at home on Sunday afternoon after a long illness. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 11 at 2PM in the Brice Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chris Walker, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Survivors are four sons: J.A. and Hamp Roberds of Three Rivers; Carl and G.E. of Fort Worth; four daughters, Mrs. R.S. Barkley and Mrs. Dora Breedin, both of Three Rivers; Mrs. J.D. Three Rivers ? Mrs. Clint Roberds, 75, who had been a resident here the past seven years, died about 9AM Friday, February 10, 1967, in a local hospital after a short illness.

A native of AL, she was a member of China Creek Baptist Church, San Saba.

Funeral services were at 2PM Sunday in the Brice Funeral Chapel. The Reverend Chris Walker, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Three Rivers Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Hamp and J. A. Roberds, both of Three Rivers and G.E. and Carl Roberds, both of Fort Worth; four daughters, Mrs. J. D. Howard and Mrs. H. A. Murray, both of Aransas Pass and Mrs. R. S. Deward C. Roberds

Mr. Deward C. Roberds died at home in Tillamook, with family at his side, Aug. 2, 2004, at the age of 85.

Deward was born July 5, 1919, in Oden, Ark., to Robert and Couie (Smith) Roberds, and attended school in Arkansas. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, building roads and bridges and fighting fires, and then joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving his country honorably during World War II in Africa, France, and Italy. Upon his discharge, he lived in Nebraska for a short time before moving to Longview, Wash., where he worked at Malarky Plywood for three years. He later became a plywood inspector, and moved around Washington and Oregon working for the mills, retiring in 1981.

Deward lived in the Tillamook area two different times, most recently since 1978. Mr. Roberds enjoyed cutting wood, camping, hunting, and fishing, especially in Eastern Oregon (where he was known as "South Fork Bob"). Deward will be remembered as a kind, considerate, and scrupulously honest man.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Roberds; two brothers, Albert and Carlton Roberds; and a sister, Kathleen Hickey.

He is survived by his wife, Elouise Roberds of Tillamook; a son, Robbie Roberds Jr. of Tillamook; a daughter, Lynne Roberds of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Grace Lightfoot of Longview, Wash., and by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

At Mr. Roberds' request, no service will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Those who wish may make donations in his name to Tillamook County Hospice, in care of Waud's Funeral Home
