General Notes: Wife -

Gertrude A. Beall, 93, of Denton, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at her residence. She was born to Henry G. and Edna C. Hendricks Smith on October 10, 1914 in Dial, TX. She married Joseph Ramsey Beall, Sr., on September 5, 1943. He preceded her in death after 39 years of marriage in 1982.
She is survived by her two children, son, Joe Beall and wife, Jackie of Krum and daughter, Jane Howard of Denton. She is also survived by six grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Smith of Mesquite; sister, Ruth Samuel of Denton; and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

General Notes: Wife -

I'll never forget her warm welcome of my 2 daughters, Lynn and Jane and my self into her family. She was a fun person to be with, enjoying going places. We attended theater (plays), visited friends and relatives. We even went to basketball games. Once she kept her grandson's, Mike Beam's ford mustang while he was in the air force. She just had to drive it to the First Baptist Church in Grover and park it in the very front for everyone to see what she was driving.
She offered good advise and was truly concerned for her children and their families. She was an open-minded person, but did not hesitate to speak her own mind with a laugh that made you laugh with her.
Tom and our family will always remember the holiday dinners at her home and especially the fried apple pies she made.
The years 1966 until her death March 16, 1971, "Mom Beam", as I fondly called her was a wonderful part of my life.

When my Mother died, I not only lost a Mother, but I lost my best friend. I always loved my Mother and the things she did for all her children, but I came to appreciate her more after I became a Mother.
The last few years of Mother's life and after I moved back to Cleveland Co, NC we became closer and closer. We went shopping, looking for fabric, visiting or just talking. She was always there when I needed her. Even now there are times I wish I had her to talk to.
When my children were small and I needed her to "baby set" or to come and stay with them, she come, although I'm sure their where times she didn't feel like it.
My recollection of my Mother when I was growing up, paints a picture of her in the kitchen with an apron on. She was a wonderful cook and you almost never found the "cup-boards" bare of good things to eat.
I was a sickly child and therefore a little spoiled, but this did not keep her from 'whipping me when I needed it.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Grover, which she loved and took an active role in. My Mother had lots of friends and was a joy to be around. My Husband remarks until this day what a fine woman she was and how much he respected her. I don't think she ever met a stranger and she pretty much always said what she thought.
Now that I am in my seventies I have had people tell me how much I look like her. I consider this a compliment, but I know in my heart I will never be the wonderful person she was.

My Mother was born July 24, 1900 and died March 16, 1971 at age 70. She was one of three girls and they all had 10 Brothers, as my Uncle Bert used to say. She was every active in her church, especially the Women's Missionary Union. She kept our son Herbie while Marie and I worked and she would take him to her morning Circle Meetings. One thing my Mother loved to do was sing in the choir and I can see and hear her now singing the "Wonderful Grace of Jesus" and hitting that high note in 'praise his name'. Mother was on the building committee when we built our new church in 1970. Her desire to have a steeple tall enough to see coming down Highway 29 a mile away was fulfilled. The first funeral held in the new church was my Mothers. On Sunday morning, there was no question about whether you were going to church or not. If you didn't you had better be sick enough to be in the Hospital.
When Mother told me to do something I learned every quickly not to say, "I am not going to do it." If you did you could just count on a good old threshing. You might tell her you don't want to and maybe, "I say maybe" get away with it. I was the youngest of five children and got accused of being her pet, so I suppose I got away with more than my Brothers and Sisters.
To my Mother-IN-law, Mrs. Lela, I am indeed grateful for one law she laid down to my husband Harry before we were married. The law was that Harry allows me to keep and spend my paycheck as I saw fit. The reason for this law was that at one time she had two slips and one had a hole in it. What made that bad was Mr. Beam was carry around more than a $1,000.00 in the bib of his overalls. Her desire was that I didn't experience the same thing and it didn't take me long to realize that the law was necessary in order for the four of us to have clothes, which I loved, extra things for the house and gifts for Christmas just to name a few things. The law is 46 years old and is still honored. Thanks Harry for obeying your Mother.

Rufus F. Roberts
CREEDMOOR - Rufus French "Rip" Roberts, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was a native of Lillington and the son of Mattie Lee Roberts.

He lived in Creedmoor since childhood. After attending Creedmoor High School, he farmed with his mother. He later founded two businesses in Creedmoor with his brother, Battle, including Roberts Brothers Builders Inc. and Dutchville Builders Supply Inc. He was a lifelong member of Creedmoor United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for over 50 years.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Beaman Roberts; his sons, Lester Roberts and David Lee Roberts; his sister, Lavera Aiken; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Stancil Roberts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Creedmoor United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ron Patton. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Creedmoor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Creedmoor United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 368, Creedmoor N.C. 27522.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor and other times at the home

CREEDMOOR - Lucile Beaman Roberts died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Durham Regional Hospital. Lucile was born in Ayden, and spent most of her childhood in Snow Hill. She attended Snow Hill High School, Meredith College and East Carolina Teachers College. Coming to Creedmoor in 1940, she taught English and Social Studies at Creedmoor High School before her marriage to Rufus F. Roberts. She left teaching to become a full time mother and housewife. She was a long term member of the Creedmoor United Methodist Church where she taught a Sunday School Class for many years, worked with the Methodist Youth Fellowship, was past president of the Methodist Women, and frequently represented the church as a delegate at the NC Methodist Conference. She was first librarian at the Creedmoor branch of the County Library and later worked at the Butner Creedmoor Library. She is survived by her sons, Lester Roberts and David Lee Roberts, and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus F. Roberts and her oldest son, Stancil Roberts. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Creedmoor Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Rouse. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Creedmoor Cemetery.
