Graveside services for Mary M. Waters McCoil, 87, of Murray, formerly of Lynn Grove, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Cemetery with the Rev. John Sheppard officiating.
Mrs. McCoil died at 10 p.m. Saturday at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
A native of Calloway County, she was a retired food service worker at Murray-Calloway County Hospital, having worked for 20 years. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Pixie L. Nance of Carrollton, Ga., and Melissa Anne Baker of Cadiz; a son, Gary McCoil of Murray; three sisters, Martha Windsor of Lynn Grove, Betty Jo Crittendon of Tri City and Sue Williams of Cuba; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Delmus Morris; her second husband, Hubert "Pete" McCoil; a son, William Aaron Morris; and a sister. Her parents were William Ado Waters and Carie Ulvie Richie Waters.

Born about 1829 in Harrison County, (West) Virginia. She married (1) John J. Hinzman September 7, 1850 in the home of her parents by the Rev. Henry R. Bonnett, a Methodist minister in Lewis County, (West) Virginia (Source: Lewis County Marriage Book 6, Page 224). John was the son of Henry Hinzman Jr. and Mary Starcher. He was born 1825, and died as a Civil War soldier February 7, 1865 in Point of Rocks, Maryland. Eda married (2) James L. Morrison April 13, 1876 in Lewis County, (West) Virginia. John and Eda lived on Laurel Lick Run. To find the homestead, drive 2.3 miles on Laurel Lick Road from Berlin. This is where the Methodist church once stood. Turn left and go one-half mile. All four daughters were born in this two-story house, which was originally located up the hollow on a hill, but was moved in the 1950s.

Eda was appointed guardian of her children Burthena Bird, Jenette Serina, and Jeretha Ann on Aug. 14, 1865. Oldest daughter Roanna had died by then. Perry J. Hinzman was her security. (Lewis County Recorder's Book, Page 14) In 1870, Eda and her younger daughters "Nettie" and Jeretha lived with Eda's oldest daughter Berthenia and her husband, Ashford Swisher, in Jane Lew Township, Lewis County. Eda purchased from her parents, Joseph and Mariah Osburn, their home place on Walnut Fork 63 acres for $800 and allowed them to live on the property. (Lewis County Deed Book 9, Page 410)

Eda and her second husband, James J. Morrison, a widower with three children, were living on Skin Creek, Lewis County, in 1880. Eda's daughter, Jeretha, 17, was with them. They later moved to Central Station, Doddridge County. It is unknown where or when Eda died. In 1893, Eda and James deeded the Walnut Fork property to her brother John W. Osburn and other relatives for $800, over an 8-year period, in annual payments of $100 plus interest.
