George often told his grandkids this story: that 'the individual' he was naming (his father Joseph Newton Bay) had been held in Andersonville Prison and during an exchange of prisoners, [100, I think] when they counted to 99, 100 and he was number 101, he simply got in line with the column moving out and never looked back. It was quoted, if he had looked back, he knew he would have been shot by the confederate Guard involved in the prisoner exchange. Atlanta, Sep 19 1864.
