Martha Westmoreland
Martha Sigmon McConnell Westmoreland, 66, of Ferncliff Drive, Mooresville, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at her residence.
Born March 15, 1938, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Abner Linnie and Lillie Jane Sigmon McConnell. Mrs. Westmoreland was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Mooresville, and The Classy Chicks Red-Hatters Club.
Mrs. Westmoreland was preceded in death by brothers, Billy and John McConnell; and sisters, Mabel M. Robertson and Rachel McConnell.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Graham Westmoreland, whom she married Feb. 12, 1956; children, Donna Westmoreland Brawley and husband, Dale, Sandy Westmoreland Sullivan and husband, Lee, Mandy Sullivan Edwards and husband, Mark, and Donald Graham Westmoreland Jr. and wife, Michelle, all of Mooresville; brother, Joel P. McConnell of Mooresville; sisters, Vera M. Henderson and Anne M. Kerr, both of Mooresville; brother-in-law, Alan Wayne Westmoreland of Mooresville; and grandchildren, Kendal, Tray and French Brawley, Braelyn Sullivan, Karley Edwards, Tara, Lilly and Gracen Westmoreland, and Ryan Harkey.

Thomas McCord "Mutt" Westmoreland Thomas McCord Westmoreland 'Mutt' Mr. Westmoreland, 77, of Huntersville, NC, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was born on April 6, 1972 in Huntersville to the late Thomas Calvin and Zula McCord Westmoreland. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, member of the American Legion Post 86 in Cornelius, graduate of Cornelius High School, Class of '44, and he is a retired dairy farmer, a member of the Dairy Inc. Board for 25 years. In addition to that, he served on many committees at Mt. Zion Church, was a member of the Farm Bureau Board, served on the FSA board and the Selective Service Board. He is survived by his wife, Ruth McCorkle Westmoreland; sons, Thomas M. (Mack) Westmoreland and wife, Marla, of Cornelius, Keith Westmoreland and wife, Robin, of Huntersville, and Wayne Westmoreland and wife, Mary Ellen, of Huntersville; brother, Robert Y. Westmoreland of Colorado; and eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by brother, Delbert Westmoreland, and sisters, Sarah W. Brown and Jennie W. Sloop. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military rites given by American Legion, Post 86. The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at the funeral home. The Thomas McCorkle, b c1805, married Elizabeth Westmoreland 6-21-1827in Mecklenburg Co., NC. They and their first born son were listed in the 1830 Mecklenburg Co. Census. The age bracket of the wife of Thomas was 15-20 ( born 1810-1815). The family moved to TN by 1835 and to Pope Co., IL by 1838. It was listed on the 1840 Pope Co. Census with 3 sons and 3 daughters. The age bracket of the wife of Thomas was 20-30 (born 1810-1820). These census figures suggest that Elizabeth was born c1812 - not in 1802. I believe that the names of the children of Thomas and Elizabeth include James, Robert, Thomas G., George, Sarah, Margaret, and Rhoda.

Amos McCormack, 85
Bluff Springs community resident and Van Buren County native Amos McCormack, 85, died Oct. 30 at Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro after an extended illness.

A retired machine operator with Powermatic, a farmer and a member of Missionary Baptist Church, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The son of Hosea and Anna Shockley McCormack, he was preceded in death by son, Samuel Elliot Ramage; daughter, Mary Ellen McCormack Caldwell; and brother, Remus McCormack.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Prater McCormack; daughters, Mildred McCormack Forsyth of Grundy County and Elaine Gail McCormack Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Ralph Clayton, Paul Morris and Jerry Steve McCormack, all of Warren County; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Sally Jean Curtis of Grundy County, Hozena McCormack Coppenhaver, Annie Mae Dishman, and Carolyn Williams, all of Warren County, Virginia Hendrix of Kentucky, Lucille Bonner of Washington and Glenda Holland of McMinnville; and brothers, Earl and Billy Dean McCormack, both of Warren County and Sonny (Bud) McCormack of Ashville, N.C.

Note: MCCORMACK, Nina Louise - Smithville, TN resident and Warren County native Nina Louise McCormack, age 83, was born November 24, 1924 and died August 19, 2008 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following a sudden illness. A retired employee of Levi's and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Sam Arley and Mary Ellen Lowe Prater. She was married August 4, 1952 to Amos McCormick who preceded her in death October 30, 2003. Prater and sister Jenny Lucille Rheinhart. She is survived by two daughters, Mildred McCormack Forsyth of Grundy County, TN and Elaine Gail McCormack of Phoenix, AZ; three sons, Ralph Clayton McCormack, Paul Morris McCormack and Jerry Steve McCormack all of Warren County, TN; seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two brothers, Cecil Dewey Prater of McMinnville and Eugene Prater of Warren County, TN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 in High's Chapel with Nestor Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery @ Bluff Springs. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at High's.

Bluff Springs community resident and Van Buren County native Amos McCormack, 85, died Oct. 30 at Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro after an extended illness.

A retired machine operator with Powermatic, a farmer and a member of Missionary Baptist Church, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The son of Hosea and Anna Shockley McCormack, he was preceded in death by son, Samuel Elliot Ramage; daughter, Mary Ellen McCormack Caldwell; and brother, Remus McCormack.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Prater McCormack; daughters, Mildred McCormack Forsyth of Grundy County and Elaine Gail McCormack Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Ralph Clayton, Paul Morris and Jerry Steve McCormack, all of Warren County; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Sally Jean Curtis of Grundy County, Hozena McCormack Coppenhaver, Annie Mae Dishman, and Carolyn Williams, all of Warren County, Virginia Hendrix of Kentucky, Lucille Bonner of Washington and Glenda Holland of McMinnville; and brothers, Earl and Billy Dean McCormack, both of Warren County and Sonny (Bud) McCormack of Ashville, N.C.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at High's Chapel with Nestor Stewart and Marty Goddard officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Cemetery at Bluff Springs with military graveside rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Mrs. McCormick Dies Of Illness
Mrs. Annie Shockley McCormick, 58, died at Medical Clinic Sunday at noon, following an illness of a week. The immediate cause of death was Pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Malloy cemetery at Spencer. Newton Gribble, minister of the Spencer Church of Christ, officiated and burial was in Molloy cemetery. A native of Van Buren county, Mrs. McCormick was born March 19, 1894. Her parents were Jim Shockley and Carline Medley Shockley. She is survived by her father, three sons, Amos McCormick, Smithville, Remus McCormick, McMinnville, and Earl McCormick, Spencer; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Copenhaver, Rock Island, and Mrs. Arnold Dishman, Spencer. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

Career Sergeant Watson Dies In Vietnam Mishap
The next of kin of McMinnville career soldier Sgt. James C. Watson, 27, have received word of his death from a non-combat accident in Vietnam on Christmas Day.
Sergeant Watson, son of the well-known Cumberland Presbyterian minister the Rev. F.L. Watson and Mrs. Watson, McMinnville, was a veteran of some 10 years military service, including three years in the Smithville Army National Guard unit. His mother is the former Eula Elizabeth Bond. He was married to the former Glenda McCormack, daughter of Hosea McCormack and the late Mrs. McCormack, of Dibrell. Two sons, Charles and Allen Watson, also survive. The sergeant was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Surviving, too, are seven brothers and four sisters including Paul Watson, the Rev. Morris Watson, Frank L. Watson, Jr., and Johnny Watson, all of McMinnville; James Watson, Smithville; Aaron Watson, Hot Spring, Ark.; the Rev. David Watson, Gadsden, Ala.; Mrs. Frances Billings, McMinnville; Mrs. Virgil Adcock, Rock Island; Mrs. Rebecca Bozza, Oakfield, Tenn., and Mrs. Anna Stennett, of Fairmont, Ind.
Prior to entering active service, the sergeant, a native of DeKalb County, attended Central High School here and was later employed by Century Electric Company and the H.G. Hill Store. He had been in Vietnam since Sept. 14 of this year and had previously served in Korea with the 58th Ordnance Company. In Vietnam, he was assigned to Company A of the 84th Engineer Construction Battalion. The sergeant had received numerous commendations for outstanding service and devotion to duty at his various duty stations both in the United States and abroad. He had been awarded the Expert Driver and Marksmanship badges, the Meritorious Commendation Ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnamese Service Medal.
When the body is returned, funeral services will be conducted in Love-Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Phillip Clement, of Glasgow, Ky.; complete details to be announced later. Full military honors will be rendered at the grave by the Military Funeral Detachment from Fort Campbell, Ky.
