General Notes: Wife -

Sarah Eliza Winger was born November 26, 1853, near Millersburg IL. She was the daughter of Richard and Margaret Winger. Sarah married Oscar Penbroke Mannon, the oldest son of Cyrus T. & Jane Myers Mannon on 1/1/1880 in Mercer County, after a trip to California. At the time of their marriage, Sarah was one of the foremost school terachers in Mercer County.

There is a small article in the Aledo Weekly Record, August 25, 1875: "Mr. O. P. Mannon went to California about a year ago. He has returned to Mercer County to make his home."

OLD RECORDS indicated "As nearly as we can determine Oscar and Sarah had only one child: Owen Mannon, born about 1886 and died 1905. He was married to Alice, born 1884 and died 1906. They are buried in Aledo Cemetery next to Oscar and Sarah."

But NEW FOUND history tells us that Oscar and Sarah actually had five children:

Oscar's Family was found in New Boston in 1900 Census: #124 Oscar P. Mannon, Jan 1843, Il, In, Oh 57, married 20 years, farrier; Sarah E., Nov 1854, 45, 5 children born, 5 living, Il, Oh, Oh; Lena, Nov 1880, 19, Ks; Harry, July 1882, 17, Il; Alice May 1884, 16, Il; Gwen, Apr 1886, Il; Leona Apr 1892, Il. About 1908, they went to Whittier, California, but returned to Mercer County.

Sarah, died in 1934. Sarah and two daughters are buried next to Oscar in Aledo cemetery.
