From the Book "THE HISTORY OF PIATT Co" by Edna Piatt, I took the following: Mr, Samuel Haldeman, farmer, Monticello, was born in VA in l8l0. His father was a Dane and his mother a German. He lived for ten or twelve years in Louisiana, and then in January, l856, moved to Piatt Co from OH. He settled on the Mackey farm for one season, and then bought the old hotel which stood just west of the brick hotel in Monticello. He kept the hotel part of the time, and rented it for a time until he went into the army. After returning from the war, he bought land on Camp Creek, and now owns a neat little home near the Sangamon. He was married in OH in l849 to Maria J. Bartley, a native of OH, and has had nine children, six of whom are living. Rachel was married in l876 to John Trent of Wapello, DeWitt Co; Jacob is not married, Mary was married in l872 to James Norris and has three children, Harly, William and Ollie May; the name of Mrs. Haldeman's other children are Peter K., William and Emma. Mr. Haldeman went into the army in l861 in Co A of the 10th Vol. Cav. He remained until l863, when he was discharged, because of an injury received by a falling stable. He now receives a pension. General Notes: Husband -

My Dad followed construction work and was gone for months at a time but wh en he came home it was a happy time. When we knew he was coming in, we gathered in the driveway an hour ahead of time to wait for him. We lived on top of a hill and could see two blocks down the street. When Daddy came around the curve all six of us screamed, Daddy, Daddy, as loud as we could! The neighbors came out and sit on their front porches to watch. It was a happy time for the neighborhood.
We lived one and a half blocks from the school I attended. Daddy and I walked hand in hand on my first day to attend school. I wore a red dress with white flowers and a white sailor hat and carried a blue book satchel. I can't remember what Daddy wore but that he was holding my hand was important.
Mother was a nurse and we never followed Daddy to any of his jobs until 1952. He came to SC in 1951 to work at the Savannah River Project for the government. They needed nurses desperately and Mother could make three times as much as in the hospital and we moved in 1952.
in the spring of 1953, as a new bride, I invited Daddy and Mother to their first meal in my home. I had been used to cooking for Daddy, Mother, Mama Bartley, and eight kids. I cooked the usual amount for four people. The meat of the day was meat loaf and it was not the best I had made. Daddy commented constantly how good it was, he was the only one who thought so, but that's the way Daddy's are. Written by Jackie Westmoreland Sox, about her Father Jack.

William Daugherty, Sr. Cooksville - The funeral for William Daugherty, Sr., 77, of Wolverton, MN, formerly of Cooksville and Kempton, who died Monday, will be at 1:30 pm Saturday at Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Elmo Herman officiating.
Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Bentown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Daugherty was born Feb 22, 1903, in Glen Dean, KY, a son of Peter and Lillie Smith Daugherty. He married Ola M. Basham Jan 21, 1929, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving is a daughter Opal Earing, Buckingham; a son William, Jr., Wolverton, MN; two brothers, Leonard, Numa, IA, and Joe, Glen Dean; six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Mr Daugherty was reared in Glen Dean before his family moved to the Cooksville and Kempton area to farm. He later moved to Minnesota.
