Rachel Elaine Stum
MADISONVILLE, Ky. ? Rachel Elaine Stum, 94, of Madisonville, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Hopkins County, Ky., to Pratt and Mary Daniel Lutz. She was a homemaker and former lunchroom manager at Seminary School in Madisonville. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Women?s Missionary Union and Women?s Baptist Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonnie Stum Jr., in February 1996; one son, Tom Stum; four sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Ed Stum of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Steve Stum of Flower Mound, Texas; four sisters, Lou Weidman and Betty Hawkins, both of Nashville, Tenn., and Janet Reis and Dorothy Russell, both of Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, Emerson Lutz of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bros. Jake Stum and Tondra Daugherty officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Madisonville.
Pallbearers will be Jason Patterson, Mike Stum, Jeff Stum, Jake Stum, Jesse Patterson and Josh Knight.
Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Green River Hospice Inc.; 109 S. Second Street; Central City, Ky. 42330. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Nancy S. Luxemburger Atlanta, Ga.

Nancy S. Luxemburger, a peripatetic and outspoken nonagenarian, died of natural causes. She was 99 years old.

Nancy Lenoir Scruggs Luxemburger was born June 10, 1906, in Laurens, S.C., the third of four children. Her father was a freight agent for the Charleston & Western Carolina Railroad, her mother, the daughter of a building contractor. Her ancestors, all farmers, served as foot soldiers in both the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. She spent her childhood in Spartanburg, S.C., where her family kept a cow, chickens, a large vegetable garden, and the Sabbath day. She was staunchly Presbyterian. As a young girl, she participated in the youth auxiliary of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. During that time, in response to a newspaper article predicting that the world would end in 1925, she and her sister, Nell, buried a mason jar with personal belongings as a time capsule in their back yard. It has not yet been found.

She worked and borrowed her way through Converse College, then moved to Greenville, S.C., and taught fifth, sixth, and seventh grades until she married Pleasant Carl Luxemburger, a businessman. When her husband died, she liquidated his business, went to Japan, and worked during the Korean War as a Red Cross emergency aide at an air base on the island of Hokkaido. After that war, she moved to Black Mountain, N.C., to be near her sister, Nell, and to make and correct numerous typing errors as the reservations clerk for the Montreat Assembly Inn. The last 20 years of her life, she lived in Atlanta.

She came of age during the Great Depression. As a result, she kept a garden whenever possible and left behind 37 clean but empty mayonnaise and jelly jars with lids. To her descendants she was generous to a fault. She spoke her mind frequently, not always in diplomatic terms. Age did not impair her intellectual curiosity or ability, a fact that led the University of Georgia's Centeranian Study to request a sample of her brain tissue when she died. This request pleased her greatly.

Her sister, Nell S. Reid; a son, Jerry and his wife, Elaine; three grandsons, Peter, Tim, and Hans and their wives, Muriel, Ann, and Lynn; and six great-grandchildren, Louise and Nathan, Camille and Holden, and Lucas and Theo, survive her.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to Trinity Presbyterian Church Trust Fund. A private service is planned.

LYNN

ORLANDO, FLA. - Dr. David L. Lynn passed away Saturday, September 24, 2005, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson???s Disease and its attending complications. Dr. Lynn was well known throughout Florida and the Southeast for his Veterinary practice that he ran from a historical site at 110 Weber Avenue, Orlando. Dr. Lynn was born in Durham County, North Carolina in 1928, the son of Claude C. and Della H. Lynn, who predeceased him. After he was graduated from Bethesda High School in Durham, he went to Orlando to work in the veterinary practice of his uncle, Monroe Lynn and to attend Orlando Junior College. There he fell in love with the veterinary field of medicine and went back to North Carolina to attend NC State University in preparation for entering veterinary school. Dr. Lynn continued pursuit of a veterinary degree at the University of Georgia and was graduated in 1956. He then moved to Florida where he worked for a short time with the Department of Health. As soon as he obtained his license to practice Veterinary medicine in Florida, he entered the practice of his beloved Uncle Monroe in Orlando. They made a great team and Lynn???s Animal Hospital became well known throughout Orange and surrounding counties, at the passion of the senior Dr. Lynn, David continued the practice at the Fellowship Sunday School Class; the FVMA (Florida Veterinary Medical Assoc.); AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Assoc.) and an active member of the downtown Rotary Club of Orlando with 35 years perfect attendance, holding a number of offices and was a Paul Harris Fellow and a Centurion. He was active in political campaigns and on a number of boards including the Orlando Humane Society in the past. He helped a number of young people straighten out their lives and quite a few became veterinarians. Dr. Lynn bred standard-bred horses for 15 years and became a drive himself with an A licensed, winning numerous races. His greatest love was practicing veterinary medicine.
Dr. Lynn grew up in a family of ten children. Brothers the Rev. Claibourne Lynn, of Asheville, Lt. Col. George Lynn, of Lakeland, Fla., Samuel Lynn, of Durham, and Franklin Lynn, of Hillsborough; sisters, Ethel Jones, of Phelem, Juanita Mullen, of Durham, and Marie Laviner, RN, of Durham, all who predeceased Dr. Lynn. Remaining are two brothers, C. C. Lynn, at the home place in Durham, and Victor B. Lynn Sr., of Raleigh. Dr. Lynn was in the constant care and companionship of Mrs. Anne DeLacey, of Orlando, for 28 years of his life.
Friends will be received and may visit Friday, September 30, 2005, 7 until 9 p.m. at the Lake Ivanhoe Chapel of Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd., Orlando, FL.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, October 2, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Downtown Baptist Church, 120 W. Pine St., Orlando, Fla., with the Rev. Rocky Purvis officiating. Please send red flowers or memorial contributions may be made to a Hurricane Katrina Fund

LYNN

HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Franklin "Frank" R. Lynn, 72, of 214 Pleasant Green Rd., died suddenly Monday morning at Duke University Medical Center. Mr. Lynn was born in Durham Co., the son of the late Claude and Della Lynn. He was preceded in death by siblings, Claiborne Lynn, Ethel Jones, George Lynn, Juanita Mullen, Sam Lynn, and Marie Laviner. He was a lifelong resident of the Durham area and a graduate of Bethesda School. He attended N. C. State University. Mr. Lynn served in the U. S. Army Special Services Photography Division in the European Theatre post WWII. He was a member of Bethesda Ruritan Club, past master of Oak Grove Masonic Lodge # 750 and a 33rd degree Mason in the Amran Temple. He was also a member of the Triangle and Orange Co. Shrine Clubs and an active member of VFW Post 1920. Mr. Lynn was a member of McMannen United Methodist Church, the Asbury Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Men and Primetimers. He was a driver for Interfaith Hospitality Network. Frank will always be remembered by McMannen and other community members for his countless hours of volunteer work. His love and commitment to family and friends was immeasurable.
Mr. Lynn is survived by his wife, Shirley D.Lynn; daughters, Dawn (Ron) Gaug of Raleigh and Sarah (Angela) Lynn of California; son, Marc (Savon) Lynn of Wilson; stepdaughter, Pam (Jim) Honeycutt of Sneeds Ferry; stepsons, Jimmy (Joan) Paschall of Raleigh and M. J. (Amy) Paschall of California; brothers, C. C. Lynn, Jr. of Durham, David Lynn of Florida, and Victor Lynn of Raleigh; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday 3 PM in McMannen United Methodist Church with Rev. Jesse Staton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Oak Grove Masonic Lodge # 750. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. GEORGE LYNN, 82

LAKELAND -- Lt. Col. George R. Lynn Sr. of Lakeland and Hampton, Va., died of complications from cancer Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2004) at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was 82.

Born in Durham County, N.C., he later became a winter resident of Lakeland, coming from Hampton, Va. He was a member of the Shriners and the Retired Military Officers Association. He taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Plant City.

Mr. Lynn was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Turner Lynn. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Cannon Lynn; children, Patricia Lynn Osborne, Oakton, Va., George Lynn Jr., Lakeland; stepchildren, Yvonne Costine, Bristol, Tenn., Peggy Quelle, Plant City; brothers, C.C. Lynn Jr., Durham, Dr. David L. Lynn, Orlando, Franklin R. Lynn, Hillsborough, N.C., Victor B. Lynn, Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 this afternoon at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, Va. Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery.
