Wood Held Today,- Ainsworth Man Died Suddenly Saturday Evening At His Home,- Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the residence, just west of Ainsworth, for Frank I. Wood, long a prominent resident of the Ainsworth community, who died suddenly Saturday evening at his home, aged 69 years. The services were conducted by Rev. I. Fredmund of the Washington Baptist church, followed by burial in the Ainsworth Cemetery, with Hugh Hall, Harry Hazlett, Jesse Marr, Alva Sands, Manford Wilcox and Grover Booth serving as pall bearers. Funeral plans were in charge of the L. A. Jones funeral home. Mr. Wood, while he lived on a farm and followed farming operations, was a carpenter and contractor, and was in that business in the Ainsworth community for a long period. He was born in Mercer Co, IL, June 8, 1869, a son of Norman F. Wood and Anna Welleiver Wood. He was married to Rose Kupka and is survived by his wife and two sons, Earl of Ainsworth and Blair of Columbus Junction; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Glasgow and Martha Wood, both of Iowa City; one brother, Linus Wood of east of Ainsworth and one sister, Mrs. Will Crozier of Washington. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 in the Ainsworth United Presbyterian church with Rev. Robert Stahmer in charge. Born Jan. 9, 1977 at Yatton, IA, Mrs. Wood was the daughter of John and Anna Blecha Kupka. She spent her early life in Yatton and was married there in 1894 to Frank I. Wood. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge and the Baptist church. Mr. Wood preceded her in death in 1938. Survivors include two sons, Earl Wood and Blair Wood, both of Ainsworth; two daughters, Mrs. Anderson of Clarion and Martha Wood of Des Moines; three brothers, Fred Kupka, Crawfordsville, Joe Kupka, Riverside, and Jack Kupka, Rochelle, IL;and two sisters, Mrs. Kelly Hoffman of Iowa City and Mrs. Emma Hardy, Washington. One sister, Mrs. Ed Grayson, preceded her in death. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. Arrangements are in charge of the Jones funeral home. General Notes: Husband -

George Glen Westmoreland, born September 28, 1910 to John G. and Mary B. W estmoreland in Grover, NC. He left Grover after High School at the age of 18 and followed his brother Pal to Elizabethton, TN where he met and married Gladys I. Kyte on October 29, 1930. They had two children, Betty Jean born July 26, 1931 and Glen Jr. born April 6, 1937. George and Gladys both worked at North American Rayon Corporation until he entered the ministry about 1936.
He Pastored several small churches for a while then accepted a call to Calvary Baptist church about 1948. He left that church about 1956 to accept a church in Hudson, NC. After a few years, he moved to Knoxville, TN. After that pastorate, he moved back to Lenoir, NC and stayed there until he retired in 1975. At that time they moved to Pace, Florida and lived there until their deaths.
In the middle 50's he earned his Master's degree in Theology and in the middle 60's, he went on to receive his doctorate.
I remember our house as being very quiet. His study was there and we were never allowed to raise our voices. Of course, when they were not there, our housekeeper, Margaret let us do pretty much what we wanted within reason. We were raised more by Margaret than anyone. They were always there to discipline, of course. And they did not spare the rod. They were very strict. Daddy only spoke once, but I never heard them raise their voices to each other. If there was ever a disagreement between them, it was not around us. He had to deal with a large number of church members problems so we didn't dare bring our own to him. It just seemed there was never time for us. That was life. I guess after he retired, our family was more normal than when we were small.

As a young boy I remember a comment my Uncle George made at a revival he was holding at a local Church in Cleveland Co, NC. He told the Church that there was not enough swine in the United States to take the devil out of that Church. After Marie and I were married I discovered that she was saved during that same revival. I also remember visiting his Church as a young man just after we got married and he called on me to pray before a large congregation and it scared me to death.

BIOGRAPHY: Hoyt: the second child and son of (Elihu & Eva C. Hartnett Owsl ey) was born 19 Nov 1917 on the Miller Ranch near Almon, MO. His family moved to a farm about 3 miles south of Wheatland, MO in 1923. He grew up there attending Salem grade School and Wheatland High School graduating with his brother Dee in 1935. He remaind on the farm with his family and worked several jobs before being inducted into the US Army Aug. 2 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, MO and from there was sent to Fort Ord, CA In Fort Ord he was trained and placed in the 99th Signal Corps BattalioNCo. A. The 99th Signal Corps was sent to the south Pacific where it followed the invasion troups on the Islands to establish the communications. Hoyt was involved in most of the mayor campains of the Pacific. In late May of 1945 Hoyt returned to the States where he remained until his discharge on 1 Oct, 1945 at Camp Crowder, MO. Hoyt married Margaret Lafaver on 5 Aug. 1945. Hoyt went to work for the Southwest Electric Cooperative in Bolivar, MO on 1 Nov 1945. When Margaret's bro. J.B. returned from the Navy he and Hoyt tried the Home Insulation Business for awhile. Not much interest was shown in Home Insulation, so Hoyt & J.B. gave that up. In March 1948 Hoyt returned to work for the Southwest Electric Cooperative (REA) in Preston, MO. He made District Foreman of the Preston office in 1954 where he remained until his retirement Dec 2, 1982. Hoyt has always been active in the Preston Methodist Church. Also he was instrumental in building a Fire Depart. building and getting a Fire Engine for the town of Preston. Hoyt and Margaret raised a family of 2 sons and 2 daughters. one son and both daughters have obtained College degrees and the other son has done quite well for himself.

William is found in the 1880 IL census, Mercer Co, Ohio Grove township. He is age 30 and a farmer W. A. Robb, Here 46 Years, Called William A. Robb, pioneer resident of Ontario (CA), died this morning at 7:12 o'clock at his home, 520 North Euclid avenue, at the age of 87. In poor health for two years, he had been confined to bed for the past four months. Mr. Robb was for more than 25 years official registrar of voters in the West End. He became a familiar figure to local residents by delivering registration and voting material in his horse and buggy in the territory from the foothills to the Pioneer school, south of Ontario. As Mr. Robb and other West End residents in the early days were troubled by the prevalence of jack rabbits, he organized groups of men to line either side of upper Euclid avenue to catch the animals. The team which bagged the most game was treated by the losers. A native of PA, Mr. Robb had later resided in IL before coming to Ontario 46 years ago. Here he became a charter member of the Presbyterian church and a number of years ago retired from his farming activities. Surviving Mr. Robb are his widow; a son, Wallace A. Robb, of Chicago; a sister, Miss Ella M. Robb, of Huntington, PA.; two brothers, Irvin Robb of Philadelphia and George Robb of Hungtington. Funeral arrangements, under the charge of J. B. Draper & Company, are pending the arrival of Wallace Robb from Chicago. The Daily Report, Ontario, CA Aug 18, 1937 This Memorial appeared a couple of days later: IN MEMORIAM Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 P.M. today at the J.C. Draper company chapel in Upland for W.A. Robb, 520 North Euclid avenue. Mr. Robb was an Ontario pioneer, having located here in June, 1891. He was born in Huntington, PA. January 1, 1850. At maturity he moved to Western, IL. near Monmouth, where he was a successful farmer until he came to Ontario. He owned and tended a ranch at Euclid avenue and H street for many years after his arrival here. After leaving this ranch he took up his residence at 520 North Euclid where he died August 18. Mr. Robb was active in republican party affairs throughout his residence in the community. He was a member of the original Upland First Presbyterian church and later a charter member of the Westminster Presbyterian church of Ontario. At the time of his death he was a member of the Bethel Congregational church of Ontario. His age was 87 years, 8 months and 18 days. The Daily Report, Ontario, CA Aug 20, 1937 Huntingdon Daily News , William A. Robb William A. Robb, of Ontario, CA, a native of Huntingdon Co, passed away at his late home on Wednesday, 18 August 1937, according to word received by relatives here, Mr. Robb was the eldest son of Livingston and Mary Nelson Robb and was born at the Robb homestead in Hartslog Valley 1 January 1850. At the time of his death, he was aged 87 years, 7 months and 17 days. He left Huntingdon Co at an early age, locating in IL where he followed farming as an occupation. He later went to CA where he operated a fruit ranch until he retired several years ago. Surviving are his wife and one son, Wallace L. Robb, of Chicago, one sister and two brothers, Ellie M. Robb, and George Robb, of Hartslog Valley and J. Irvin Robb, of Philadelphia. Funeral services and interment took place at Ontario CA on Friday. Martha is found in the 1860 IL census, Mercer Co, Sunbeam. She is called M aria M. & is age 1. She is found in the 1870 IL census, Mercer Co, OH Grove township. She is found in the 1880 IL census, Mercer Co, OH Grove. She is age 21 and keeping house Martha Maria Robb, 89, widow of William A. Robb and Ontario pioneer, died yesterday at her home, 520 North Euclid avenue, where she had resided continually for 45 years. Death climaxed a two-weeks' illness with pneumonia. A native of IL, Mrs. Robb came to Ontario 57 years ago from Monmouth, IL. Mr. Robb died here in 1937. The octogenarian is survived by a son, Wallace Livingston Robb, Chicago. Funeral services for the pioneer will be conducted tomorrow, 3:30 P.M. at the J.B. Draper company chapel, 127 West C street. The Rev. Charles L. Knight and the Rev. Donald W. Head, former and present pastors respectively of Bethel Congregational church, to which Mrs. Robb belonged, will officiate. Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
