Jacqueline "Jackie" (Miller) Howell was born August 14, 1930 to Cecil and Ada Miller in Gold Bar, WA. She was the oldest of four, two sisters, Pauline and Audrey, and one brother, Clinton, who have preceded her in death.
She graduated from Sultan High School in 1948; she married Doug Howell on July 16 the same year. They lived in Forks, WA, until 1981 where they raised five children, Loretta Eades, of Yakutat, AK, Mike Howell, of Wrangell, AK, Marvin Howell, of Snohomish, WA, Sue Nelson, of Wrangell, and Ron Howell, of Forks.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Jackie was also a Foster mom, Member of the Eastern Star and Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls, and devoted Spartans football fan. In 1981 they moved to Southeast Alaska, where they lived and worked in several logging camps; Port Alice, Cape Pole, Pt. McCartney, Sodebergs, St. John's Harbor, and in Whitestone where she was the "camp mail lady." They retired to Wrangell in 1988; Jackie worked in the cannery part-time and was involved with Rainbow Girls.
Doug passed away in 1995. In 1997 Jackie suffered a massive stroke and later moved to Juneau, AK. Residing at Mountainview Senior Housing from 1998-2002 and then Juneau Pioneer Home until her death on August 31, 2008.
Jackie had 14 grandchildren, Samantha, Mike, Blake, Michael, George, Rolland, Jacki, Doug, Emily, Lisa, Nicki, Traci, Ryan and Eric; and 22 great-grandchildren, Jesse (deceased), Jamie, Kori (deceased), Kayla, Hope, Loretta, Dorothea, Rachel, Blake Jr., Sarah, ChariDee, Aaron, KayDee, Kaytlin, Jack, Robyn, Jason, Shailyn, Josh, Rickie, Jeffery and Riley. Her family was her pride and joy, and was evident by the pictures she carried wherever she went.
A memorial service was held September 4, 2008, at the Juneau Pioneer Home and graveside services were September 6, 2008, in Wrangell.

Obituary: Loren Kay Hooper--Loren Kay, 98, died Wednesday, July 19,1995, at Davis Hospital a nd Medical Center in Layton, of causes incident to age. He was born May 4, 1897 in Mona, Utah, a son of John Thomas and Laura Rosetta Haws Kay. He married Zina Cooke on September 10, 1919 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died March 30, 1963 in Franklin, Idaho. He married Mary Laurena Arave in Ogden. She preceded him in death. He married Mildred Child in the Ogden LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. He had lived in Mona and Tremonton, Utah and in Parma, Idaho. He lived most of his life in Sunset and in Hooper for the past four years with his son Rulon and wife Mary Lou. A special tribute to Sanford and Mary Lou and their children for their special care and help during Dad?s stay with them. He was an active member his entire life in the LDS and the time of his death was a member of the Hooper 4th Ward. He was a High Priest. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the US Army. Mr. Kay was a farmer. He had also worked at Hill Air Force Base, Union Pacific Railroad, Kennecott Copper, and the Naval Base. Surviving are four sons, Loren O?Deen (Bessie) Kay and Harold John (Elsie B.) Kay, both of Roy; Thomas A. (Joyce) Kay, West Haven; Rulon Sandy (Mary Lou) Kay, Hooper. He was preceded in death by two sons, Grant Raymond Kay and Delbert Lee Kay. Also surviving are seven daughters. Wilda R. (Richard) Michael, Clearfield, Audrey L. (Joseph) Peterson, Roy; Lula V. (Sheridan) Wilson, Clinton; Iris G. (Gerald) Anderson, Honeyville, Utah; Linda P. (Frank) Gale, Redmond, Utah; Peggy A. (Kenneth) Johnston, Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; Sherley M. (Ray) Wallberg, Taylorsville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Zina Ruth Hunsaker. He is also survied by 83 grandchildren, 150 + great-grandchildren, and 75 + great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Carma (Carl ) Radin, Seattle, Wash; Dorothy (Nick) Chournos, Tremonton, Utah; Eunice (Cliff) Summers, Garland, Utah. He was preceded in death by one brother and six sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hooper 4th Ward Chapel, 5000 S. 5900 W. with Bishop Ron Lynch officiating. Friends may call at the Linquist?s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday at the ward chapel 10 to 10:45 am.
