He was a machinist for the Ford Motor Co. in Detroit, Wayne Co, MI for 25 years

My father, Burl Henry Osburn, worked 17 years in Detroit, Wayne Co, MI as a tool & die maker at the US Royal Rubber Factory, Detroit In late 1950 we moved to Washington, PA where he worked in Coropolis, PA in the same trade. He was acquainted with Perry Como, before he became a star in the music industry. Over time he became disabled with upper & lower back disc problems, which landed him in various hospitals in Pittsburgh, PA for close to 3 1/2 years. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multi-Sclerosis (MS) as a result. Medically, the Primary Doctor told him that he wouldn't be able to work again and the family should move to a warm climate for his health ... which in October 1956 we re-located to Phoenix, Maricopa Co, AZ. He was in the hospital when he passed ... He had a leak in his intestinal tract, which could have been repaired but he opted not to have the procedure performed. He told me, his son, he was ready to go. He passed in his sleep... Dale Osburn

The Rochester Sentinel Tuesday, July 5, 1966 Earl Stout, 70, dies at his Home. Earl E. Stout, Sr., 70, 1206 Main Stre et died early Sunday morning at his home. He was a retired farmer and former LaPorte factory worker who had lived in this community since 1961. Born in Circleville, OH, June 14, 1896, he was the son of Wesley and Mary Evans Stout. He was married at Dayton, OH, to Marie Gettier, who died in 1962. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Manitou Lodge No. 1107. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Feece, RR 1, Winamac and Mrs Louis (Eleanor) Fair, of Vandalia, OH; Two sons, Navy Lt. Forrest Stout, in Naples, Italy and Earl Stout, Jr., of Dayton, OH; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at the Foster and Good Funeral Home.

From Reber geneology by Landis Reber: Among the citizens of Southern Schuylkill County worthy of mention, was Horace F. Reber - now deceased - Editor and one of the publishers of the "Pine Grove Herald." He was the son of Franklin W. Reber, my uncle, and wife Rebecca (Manbeck) and was born at White Horse, now Rock, in Washington township, Schuylkill County on Feb. 25, 1866. His grandparents on his mother's side, were John Manbeck of the same place and his wife Barbara (Katerman) from Strausstown, Berks County. On his father's side his Grand parents were George Reber of the Deibert's valley, south of Mannheim township, Schuylkill County, and his wife Maria (Rushy) of near Reading, Berks County. The Great Grand parents of Mr. Reber were George and Katherine (Miller) Reber both from near Reading.

The Rebers are of German descent. Between the year 1732 and the year of the breaking out of the Revolutionary War, a group of people by the name of Reber emigrated to this country landing at the ports of New York or Philadelphia. The Rebers are quite prominent in southern Schuylkill and northern Berks counties, including the city of Reading. The Rebers are identified with the professional, manufacturing and social life of the counties, Schuylkill and Berks, as well as the farming life of these counties. Rebersburg, in Centre County is named after the family of Reber, a number having settled in that county.

Horace F. Reber was thirteen years old when the family moved to Pine Grove. Here is where he attended the public schools. He served as clerk in the store of his father who was associated with his son-in-law in the mercantile business, in the Molly stand on North Tulpehocken Street.

Horace F. Reber graduated from the Pine Grove High School in the class of 1885, under Prof. G. W. Channel. For a short time he worked at the D. and J. Gensemer Tannery, and later on the work train of the Reading railway, where he was advanced to the scale office in Oct of that year, under weigh master, Samuel Morrett Helms. On May 12, 1887, he was wedded to Ella R. Hoffman, daughter of Mr and Mrs. John P. Hoffman of Tower City, Pa., and to this union was added six children; namely: Florence V. who graduated from the Pine Grove High School and later from the Millersville State Normal School. She taught school at Irving, Pine Grove, Lykens, Schuylkill Haven and Norristown. Norman Dean, graduated from the Pine Grove High School and later from Schissler Business college of Norristown. He served as a page in the House of Representatives at Harrisburg, Pa, in the session of 1903, and is now head accountant for the Gensemer and Salen tanneries at Pine Grove, Pa. Ferd L. graduated from the Pine Grove High School and the Pierce Business College at Philadelphia, and at present is a Resort solicittor for the Philadelphia Record, and identified with the Philadelphia Choral Society. Harold M. graduated from the Pine Grove High School and later from the Lebanon Business College and at present is clerk for Messrs. Simon and Sherman, slaughterers at Reading. Prior to serving with this firm, he was a chauffeur for the Tom's River, N.J. Garage, for a year, where he became an enthusiastic Autoist and expert at the wheel. Esther E. graduated from the Pine Grove High School, and is clerking in the health department at Harrisburg, Pa. Dorothy graduated from the Pine Grove High School and married James Cantwell and lives near Philadelphia, Pa.

In June 8, 1891, Mr. Horace Reber joined Company G 4th Regiment National Guard of Pennsylvania as a private. He filled the position of Company clerk under Capt. James W. Umbenhauer and later was elected as second lieutenant of the same Company. He served in the riots at Homestead in 1892, and in 1897, at Drifton and Hazelton, following the Lattimer riots. He tendered his resignation because of confliction with his civil duties and was honorably discharged Feb. 19, 1898, by Col. David Brainard Case of Columbia.

Mr. Reber had been a member of Camp No. 49, P. A. S. of A. and Castle No. 124 Knights of the Golden Eagle for many years. In the latter her served as one of the trustees for many years and as one of the instructors for fifty four terms. Also as reqresentative to many State Grand Castle sessions, and was tendered the nomination to be advance to State officers in Grand Castle, but declined. He also belonged to a number of Political clubs in the county and elsewhere, incuding the Union Republican Club of North Broad St., Philadelphia.

On Jan. 1, 1894, Mr. Reber entered the office of county commissioners as a second assistant clerk, under chief clerk, Phil. J. Connel. On Jan. 1, 1895, he was appointed first assistant clerk, or tax clerk, serving in this capacity until Jan. 1, 1897, when with the re-election of Frank Rentz and John P. Martin, and the election of Charles F. Meyers, he was appointed chief clerk, serving in that capacity until May 1898 when the board was dropped from office as a result of a court trial, Frank R. Kantner of Lofty and John Stauffer of Schuylkill Haven being appointed as commissioners. Later on all the appointed officials of the board were dropped except Mr. Reber who was appointed first assistant clerk and served until the end of 1899. Having become a candidate for the office during that year and elected by the highest majority of the commissioners for that year, he was inducted into office as a county commissioner, being one of the youngest men ever elected to that important office in Schuylkill county. He served two terms, from 1900 to 1905. In 1906, Mr. Reber formed a business partnership with John Reber of 14th and Market Streets in Pottsville, Pa, for the manufacturing of hosiery and a plant was erected on a lot purchased from the P. and R. railway company on East Pottsville Street on which was erected a frame factory. In addition to the manufacture of hosiery, the firm also operated a coal washery in the Swatara Creek which provided fuel for the plant. The later part of 1909, Mr. Reber sold out his interest to his partner John Reber and in December of that year became assiciated with Charles Anderson in publishing the Pine Grove Herald in which business he continued until his death. He also was engaged in reportorial work for a number of daily newspapers from his community. Mr. Reber and his family are identified with the Methodist Church of his home town in which he had been one of the officials.

General Notes: Wife -

Marie M. Hogsed, 74, of Murphy died Friday (June 4, 2004) in a Murphy hospital. Marie was a native of Cherokee County, where she had lived most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jewell and Lillie Mae Parnell Self and the wife of the late John Everett Hogsed, who died Jan. 28, 1995. She was a member of the Bear Paw Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Palmer.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Alice Riley of Clayton, GA, Louise Watkins of Young Harris, GA, and Johnnie Loudermilk of Copperhill, TN; a son, James Rose of Fairmont, GA; five sisters, Edgal Chilson of Warne, Rethal Hogsed and Geneva Floyd both of Murphy, Joy Domeny of Savannah, GA, and Juanita Childers of Clover, SC; two half-sisters, Fostine Richardson and Faye Ellen Hall both of Gastonia, NC; a step-sister, Mary Nell Ricketson of Charlotte, NC; a half-brother, J.C. Self of Gastonia; and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
