Okey Gail Hinzman Jr., 57, of Harrisville died peacefully in his sleep Jan. 6, 2005, in Parkersburg after a long, but courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease and most recently, cancer.

He was born July 4, 1947, in Parkersburg, the son of the late Okey Gail and Laura Freeman Hinzman Sr.

Okey was an active member in the community by volunteering in past years at Harrisville Elementary and for many sports teams as "equipment manager." He served as vice-president of the Residents Council at Pine View where he led morning prayers and lobbied for the spiritual needs of other patients. He was a sweet, faith-filled man who will be sadly missed. He was a member of the Ritchie Church of the Nazarene, where he served in past years as greeter and usher. He is survived by siblings, Azalea Seese of Pennsboro, Cheryl MacCallum of Middletown, Ohio, Matthew Hinzman of Harrisville, Florida "Cooey" Richards of West Union, Mark Hinzman of Nevada, Lonnie Musilak of North Carolina, and his closest family members, brother, Luke, Lisa, Megan, Aaron and Zane Hinzman, who provided his care for several years and who a special bond was shared; and several nieces, nephews, great -nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his step mother, Margaret Louise Hinzman.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Pastor Joseph Ratliff officiating. Burial follows in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Paul Wesley Hinzman Paul Wesley Hinzman, 86, of Beckley went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the Beckley VA Medical Center. Mr. Hinzman was born on August 7, 1918 at Newberne and was the son of the late Richard and Leona Sayre Hinzman. Mr. Hinzman was a retired employee of Montgomery Ward after 33 years of service. He was a graduate of Morris Harvey College with a B.S. Degree in education, and had previously served as a substitute school teacher in Raleigh County. Mr. Hinzman was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Beckley, where he had served as a lay speaker, lay leader, and as church representative to the annual conference. Mr. Hinzman had served on various boards and committees throughout Raleigh County. He was a member of the American Legion Post #32, the United Methodist Men, the Beckley Shrine, and the Beckley Masonic Lodge #95, A.F. & A.M. Mr. Hinzman had served in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Hinzman was preceded in death by his son, Richard Wesley Hinzman.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorthy McWhorter Hinzman; two sons, David Ray Hinzman and wife Rebecca of Beckley, and Kenneth Paul Hinzman and wife Anita of Martinsburg; a sister, Augustine Lake of Weston; 15 grandchildren, Master Sgt. Richard Hinzman and wife Kelly of Stafford, Va., Gunnery Sgt. Robert Hinzman and wife Julie of Pax, Melissa Bowyer and husband Walter of Edon, Ohio, Deborah Griffith of Waynesboro, Pa., Michelle Meadows and husband Eric of Beckley, Crystal Hinzman of Beckley, David Hinzman Jr. and wife Melanie of Beckley, Brett Heckendorn and wife Beverly of Martinsburg, Kimberly Hensell and husband Brian of Martinsburg, Kenneth Hinzman II and wife Beverly of Martinsburg, Kerri Hinzman of Martinsburg, Amanda Mills and husband Blake of Martinsburg, Kristina Cloud and husband Mark of Martinsburg, Kody Hinzman of Martinsburg, Kennadee Hinzman of Martinsburg, and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Beckley with Dr. Robert Stoddard Officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park also in Beckley. Military graveside rites were conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post #3110 Honor Guard. The grandsons served as pallbearers. Swisher (Balyimore, MD) Dated: June 7, 1942: You spoke of me signing my i nitials and thought I was the Orris Lawson y ou had hear of. That is right. I us ually sign the initials as I have had the given name mistook for a feminine nam e in correspondence. As you suppose, my father's name was Thee, (Theophilus) a nd my mother's name was Molly. I believe I told you she was still living in Wes t VA, at Lumperport, Harrison Co. My father died in 1921. She was a daughter of Perry G. Hinzman who had the mill at Berlin. As I remember it, Gran dmother Hinzman was a sister of your Grandfather Peter Swisher. I can remember of he being in the house in Berlin. I used to stay with my Grandfather a great deal. I always liked to be around the mill and seeing the people come and go. I can remember of when we were living on Laurel Lick of going out to the teleph one pole close behind the house and having my ear to the pole and hearing the humming or roar and of coming in the house and telling mother that I could "Hea r Grandpa's mill running" and of her laughing and explaining the noise. I reme mber your father very well. One thing about him is especially vivid. You rememb er of how he used to cleck in the Farmer's store in Berlin when my Uncle Tom Al lman was away. I remember being in the store one day when he was clecking ther e and of Uncle Allan Morris coming in and asking for some chewing tobacco and o f laying down a very few pennies, possibly two or three. I remember of your fat her reaching back and of taking out a plug, possibly as much as a dimes worth a nd handing it to him and shoving his very small amount of money back to him an d of I thinking how nice that was, as I could remember how desperately poor Unv le Allan always was. I remember of my father speaking of it offen, that is of h ow hard he had it and of my father giving him home made tobacco when he would come to our house. I can remember of Uncle Allan's look of appreciation when yo ur father gave him the "Store Tobacco". Uncle Allan married Grandfather's Lawso n sister as I remember it. That would be an Aunt to my father.

The following information was provided by his daughter, Alice Mae Hinzman Wood, on 5 April 1999: -Member of Local Union #449 Steam fitters -Worked at Blawnox Power Pipe (1944?-1959) when he retired. It was located on the North Side of Pittsburgh -SS# 211-01-5673 -Was in the Army during WWI, probably the cavalry ?. He served in the Philippines, where there was some kind of trouble. He was never able to use his benefits. -He used to tell the story about a woman doctor in the Philippines, who when they broke down Philippines, who the door, they found her eating a leg. -Bur. Garden Devotion-#195B -He was a member of the, Manchester Post of the American Legion 80 -Worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad for about 5 years, ca. 1940's. He was a brakeman, on the Conway Yard to Altoona, PA run. She stated that he was 5' 7" tall, with brown hair and eyes. He was going bald on top in his old age and he used to shave what was left. On Alice's birth certificate, he is listed as a comedian. At the time she was born , they were traveling on Vaudeville, with Catherine Retsch's daughter from her first marriage, Alberta. Robert Baird Hinzman, was married 4 times during his life. His 1st wife was Catherine ?, and they had a son named Lawrence. It was told to Alice, that Robert and Catherine, met under the clock at Kauffman's in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
