Baily, Bernard, justice of the peace, 110 1/2 N. Adams street, was born in Howard Co, Md., March 26, 1812, and is the son of Vincent and Susanna (Barnard) Baily, natives of Chester Co, PA. He left his native Co in 1829 with his parents, and coming to St. Louis stayed there a few month s, and then came on to Illinois and settled in Tazewell Co. He taught school there for some time and worked at an ox mill which his father and brother had built. He then moved to Pekin, where, for the next two or three years, he worked at the grocery business, and afterwards at wagon making for a little over a year, saving up, by rigid economy, about $500, and by its aid read law with his brother for two years; taught school in Sand Prairie township for six months, and thence removed to Mercer Co, Ill., where he practice law for one year, having been admitted to the bar at Springfield in 1840. He married in January, 1841, at Millersburg, in the last named Co, Miss Arabella Gilmore, a Creole and native of Louisiana, and removed to that State, engaged in sugar and cotton planting in the parish of East Baton Rouge until 1848, when he returned to Pekin, Ill. He was elected mayor of that city in the years 1849 and 1850, and was the first to hold the office. He bought out the Tazewell Mirror, and after conducting it for about six months, disposed of it and in 1852 came to Peoria and purchased an interest in the Peoria Republican, in the publication of which he was associated with Thos. J. Pickett. Disagreeing shortly afterwards on a matter of politics, he disposed of his interest and devoted himself for about a year to the business of insurance agent, and then engaged in the boot and shoe business, in which he remained until 1856, when he was elected justice of the peace, and has held the office, with the exception of about one and a half years, ever since. He is the oldest acting justice in Peoria. He has held the office of city and township collector for one term each. The fruits of his marriage were eleven children, only four of whom are now alive, May, Samuel P., Bernard and Ellie.

Had 11 to 14 Children Circa 1835 moved in and was raised by her uncle Eph raim & Julia Ann. Jan 12, 1841 she moved with her brothers & sisters back to Louisiana where her husband managed the plantation.

Baird, 102, of Frederick will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2004, at the Burkhardt Chapel Baird died Wednesday evening, June 23, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Burial will be at Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home Mary was born Jan. 12, 1902, to John Harrison and Rebecca Ora (Rhone) Nelson, in Comanche. She married John Baird. She lived in Oklahoma City, Allen and Ada before moving to Frederick. She enjoyed playing the piano and loved playing dominos. Irene M. Baird , 86, of Loveland, died Sept. 25, 2006, at Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
She was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Neola, Kan., to William R. and Cora M. Marcum Smith. She was raised and educated in Kansas. On Feb. 9, 1941, she married Richard E. Baird in Turon, Kan. After her marriage they moved to Colorado. Because of her husband?s job, they moved around a lot before settling down in Loveland in 1971.
Over the years she felt her main job was her family, but also worked in restaurants, motels and finished up with 21 years helping with the school district in Loveland, retiring in 1992.
She lived life to the fullest, enjoying each and every day. She enjoyed meeting new people and was involved with various card clubs, Buick club, Senior Singles, and did volunteer work at the First Christian Church library, where she had been a member for 33 years.
She is survived by a son, Bradley Baird of Yuma, Ariz.; daughters, Monna Canaday and husband Doug of Greeley, and Tami Spaulding and husband Richard of Pierce; brother, Bud Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Maxine Hippen of Hutchinson, Kan.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Richard Baird, who died Oct. 19, 2000, eight brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Adamson West Chapel in Greeley.
Services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the First Christian Church in Loveland.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Oliver Scofield White was born on December 12, 1869, on Indian Camp Creek, in the area that would soon become Dexterville , Butler Co, KY. His parents were William E. and Margaret M. (Snodgrass) White. On October 8, 1891 he married Luella Jane Daugherty, a beautiful 17 year old lass of Irish blood, daughter of Daniel Etson Daugherty and Francis E. Swift. She was born on December 15, 1874. In 1893, Oliver S. and his brother (Henry)1 bought a small grocery store at Flint Springs, Ky., where he was engaged in business for 10 years. On January 1, 1901 Oliver and Luella entered into a mortgage to buy 50 acres of land from Thomas T. Daugherty for $100.00, which they paid in full on November 13, 1904. When O.S. White moved to Baizetown, his brother Henry (?)continued to run the store at Flint Springs, and after Henry died, Henry's son ran it.
Oliver and Luella had 4 children, 1 son Leslie, and 3 daughters, Bertha, Duma and Gertie. Luella died on March 1, 1909, and is buried in the Daugherty Cemetery on Flint Springs Road. Oliver was successful in merchandise business and donated the land on which the New Zion Baptist Church was built. On September 8, 1909 Oliver married Rebecca Jane Baize, a high school buddy of his daughter, Bertha. In fact, they had a double wedding, getting married with Bertha and C. E. Daugherty. Her parents were William Wade Baize and Amanda Caroline Stewart. She was born in Butler Co, KY on March 3, 1889.
Oliver and Rebecca had 3 children, Opal, William D. and Oliver S., Jr. In 1922 he sold the store in Baizetown and opened one in McHenry. His son William, recalls that it took all night to move from Baizetown to McHenry by horse and wagon. He bought a store on Howard Street just west of the old Machine Shop. They lived in the back of the store. In about 1924 or 1925, O. S. bought the store on Dorcas Street where he had his grocery business until about the end of W.W.II. The family also lived at the back of the store during this time period. In 1945, he sold this store to his son Leslie and opened a store in Cromwell which he operated for only a couple years, moving back to McHenry in 1946 or 1947, and opening up the store on Highway 62, just north of Cecil Chinn's Funeral Parlor. He operated the store on Highway #62 until he died in 1949. In about 1950 Rebecca moved to a house right on the south side of the Leslie's grocery store, and some time later, moved to the house just down the hill from Clarence and Gertie, in Frogtown. From 19__ to 19__ she lived with her daughter Opal in Bowling Green, and in 19__ she went to live in the Masonic Home in _____________
He was a member of the Baizetown Baptist Church, a Mason and a member of the WOW, at which he was financial Secretary of his camp for more than 40 years.
O.S. White died on August 6, 1949 and is buried at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Rebecca J. White died on December 29, 1969 and is buried beside O.S. White
