Family history investigated by Jimmie Lee and Patricia Lou Frerkes Sackvil le, using records from family history, Mildred Sackville Schmidt, the Rock Island Historical Society, the Davenport Public Library, the Rock Island Public Library and from Andrew Sackville of Ormskirk, South Port, England. Joseph and Martha (Hampson) Sackville came to this country from Clifton, England. (Lancachire, near Manchester) in 1851. One of their children, a baby named Joseph, was buried at sea on May 23, 1852, and another son, Joe, almost two, burned to death by falling into a caldron of lard being rendered for soap after they arrived in IL. The couple also lost another son William Edward, 4 months, on Oct 18, 1854. They raised four children, William Edward, (named after dead brother) Elizabeth Ann, James and Robert. Ticket dated Apr 2, 1850, Joseph & four others booked passage on the DeWitt-Clinton, to sail from Liverpool for New York on the 13 of Apr, 1850 for the sum of 5.5.0.

Irma S. Hampton

Asheville - Irma Sigmon Hampton, 91, of 27 Zephyr Drive, Asheville, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Hospice Solace Center.

Mrs. Hampton was born in Morganton and was a daughter of the late Thomas Locke Sigmon and Geneva Frances Tilley Sigmon. She was a former co-owner and manager for National Photo Supply, and she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are her two sons, Kenneth Hampton and Thomas Hampton, both of Asheville; two grandsons, Thomas Hampton, of Richmond, Va., and Duane Hampton, of Mebane; and three great-granddaughters.

The graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Green Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Joey Hoffman officiating.

Floy Hendrix, age 102, of Marshall, passed away Monday, Jan. 24 (2011) at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, Harrison. She was born in Des Arc, Mo. on March 6, 1908, to Henry Hampton and Martha (Williams) Hampton.
Floy was a loving and giving person who loved to have her family around her. She enjoyed quilting and gardening, and loved to give her garden produce to friends and family.
Floy Hendrix was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy Hendrix; two sisters and four brothers; and one grandson and one great-grandson.
Survivors include two sons, Duane Hendrix and wife Pauline of Springdale, Lavern Hendrix and wife Emma of Canyonville, Ore.; one daughter, Anna (Susie) Horton and husband Johnny of Marshall; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives who will mourn her passing.
Services for Floy will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Roller-Coffman Chapel, Marshall. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the chapel. Burial will be at Witts Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jonathan Horton and Trent, Shawn, Lyndon, Dan, Roy, Bill and Jerry Hendrix.

Charley and Anna were living in Des Moines Twp. next door to his parents in the 1900 Van Buren County census. In later years he lived in the "Pearson House" in Keosauqua.

Death of Mrs. C.W. Sheets

People of Keosauqua and vicintiy were greatly shocked when news came last Sunday morning that Mrs. C.W. Sheets had passed away at 3 o'clock that morning at her home in Des Moines township about three miles south of Keosauqua. Mrs. Sheets had been in poor health for some time but our people were not prepared for this sudden shock as the family thought she was improving and she was seen at the band concert here Saturday night apparently enjoying the music from a seat in her car.
She leaves to mourn the loss of a noble mother, seven children, six sons and one daughter, all at home except Ray, who has employment at Milwaukee, and all were at the funeral. They are: Ray, Ivan, Carl, Floyd, Loren and Lester, (twins) and Mary.
Besides the children she is survived by her husband, father (Granville Hanan), brother Jas. Hanan of Boulder, Colo., and sisters Imogne Waechter of Yuma, Colo.; Mary Kingsbury of Des Moines township, and Dora Hanan of Keosauqua.
The funeral which was largely attended by many relatives and friends, was held this afternoon (Wednesday), Eld. Nickle of Keosauqua in charge, at Center Chapel and interment was in the cemetery there.

General Notes: Wife -

MRS. C. W. SHEETS Anna Leota Hanan, second daughter of G. T. and Mary DeHart Hanan, was born Feb. 26, 1873, near Mt. Sterling, and died July 11, 1926, at her home near Keosauqua, aged 53 years, 4 months and 15 days.

On March 15, 1899, she became the wife of C. W. Sheets and to this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter, all of whom were present at the time of her going, except Ray of Milwaukee, Wis.

She leaves to mourn their loss, besides her husband and children, her father, three sisters and one brother. Her mother and one brother preceded her to the Eternal Home.

In her girlhood days she united with the M. E. church and later with the Christian church of Keosauqua.

Always quiet and unassuming and with her heart and hands full of home duties she will be sadly missed in the family circle as well as among her many friends.

"God's finger touched her, and she slept."

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at Center Chapel, Rev. E. L. Nickle conducting the services.
