DURHAM - Mrs. Barbara Nifong Hales Doby, 73, resident of #9 Spruce Knob Ct., died Tuesday evening, February 24, 2004, in Duke Medical Center following declining health. She had been a life long resident of Durham and was the daughter of the late Samuel Lacy and Verona Mosley Nifong. She was formerly married to the late Erwin Jefferson (Jay) Hales. Mrs. Doby was a retired employee of the Automobile Insurance Service. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Durham Alumni Alpha Iota Sorority.
Surviving are her husband, Walter Vance Doby; one daughter, Mrs. Debra Hales Freeman of Durham; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Andrea Doby Chavez and Karen Doby, both of Dothan, Ala.; one stepson, Brian Doby of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Doris Nifong Pledger of Flat Rock; and one granddaughter, Meagan Elizabeth Ballard of Charlotte.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery Section 2 by the Rev. Brian Faggart. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Heart Springs for Handicapped Children, P.O. Box 304, Durham, N.C. 27702 - Clements Funeral Service, Inc.

Santy Route 3, Box 370 Fairmont, WV 26554 He stated in a phone conversation, on 27 April 1999, that when they went to Uncle Bob's Funeral, (Robert Ulysses Hinzman), that Uncle Bob wanted his brother Ceiel to have a Volin he had after his death, because Ceiel could play it. They picked up the Volin, before they left for home and he thinks that one of Ceiel's boys probably still has it. He also told me, as well as my mother, Alice Hinzman Wood, that Robert Ulysses and his son, Robert Braid Hinzman, would go back down to WV , once per year to see the family and play music. Robert Ulysses, played his Volin and was good at it. From notes based on conversations with Alice Mae Hinzman, April - May, 1999: She stated that her grandfather, Robert Ulysses Heinzman, was about 5' 2" tall and maybe 110 lbs., if he was wet, however, his sisters that she met were all tall and slimmer. He worked at several different jobs in his life. She knows that he was a farmer and a rancher at one time or another. She remembers him helping his son Art out on his bakery truck, for Ertl Baking Company. It was the old style delivery system, where you stopped your truck on the street, in the different neighborhoods and the people would come out to the truck, to get what they needed. From an interview with Alice Mae Hinzman (Wood) on 5 April 1999: She was only about 6 years old when her grandmother died, however, she remembers her being about 5'5" tall. She said that Matilda had several strokes in a row (2 or 3) before she died from the last one. She stated that Matilda spoke German very well, however, she also spoke English, without an accent. Went she stayed at her grandmother's house, her father used to have her tell her grandmother, "Good Nick", for good night in German. She remembers her grandmother as a very loving woman who would let her play house on the back porch. Matilda was a very good cook, who enjoyed doing needlework. On September 1909, William Thomas & His brother Burrill McClellan Tippy we re placed in the care of Henry W. Thurston, Superintendant of the Childrens Home & Aid Society at Carterville, IL. Their parents Hosea & Fannie(Claxton)Tippy could not care for them due to poverty and illness. My great grandmother Pearl Anna Tippy who was an older sister to these boys was placed in the care of some family friends by the last name of Haley who lived in Marion, IL. Burrill McClellan Tippy was adopted by Mr & Mrs Lewis Baker of Lerna, IL. His name then became Burrill Austin Baker, He was known to me as uncle Austin. Pearl & Austin were reunited in Marion, IL in 1937. William Thomas Tippy was adopted in October 1910 by a man named Frank Hatfield of 10014 Ewing avenue, Eastside, Chicago, Cook Co, IL. Pearl and Austin searched for their brother William until 1980 but were unsuccessful.

Temperance Parish was the daughter of Sion Parish and (presumably), his wi fe Celia Roberts (married 1808). Temperance married Benjamin W. Hall (see 1840, 1850, Caroll Co, TN census, See also 1860 Carroll Co, AR census). During the Civil War, the Halls moved to MO (near Preston) where they are buried.
The above info is from Martha Elaine Pritchard. She also states that she has a copy of the family bible. In an e-mail letter from Margaret Owsley (hmowsley@mail.positech.net)stated:
The information from TN and NC came principally from research by Mrs. Ione Nolan and some from other sources. We were directed to Winfred Parish in Huntingdon in June 1980, and he allowed us to take this information to copy. He also told us how to find Sion Parish's grave in Mt. Comfort Cemetery. There were marriage bonds copied for both of Sion's marriages. The way we have interpreted it (dates etc.) The children by Celia Robards were Temperance (Hall), Louise (Autry), Clairborn, Broddy, and George. The children of Sarah were John, Samuel, William and Peter.
As we were returning home from TN, we stopped to visit my husband's 93 year old Uncle. Before we could tell him about the information we had found, he volunteered that his grandmother Hall (Temperance) had a brother Peter who had "gone on horseback to CA to look for gold. He came back the same way, but it is not known if he had any success."
Winfred Parish's address in 1980 was Westwood Drive, Rt. 4, Huntingdon, TN. This letter was dated October 5, 1999.

Everett Taylor and wife, have our thanks for their renewal. Mr. Taylor had in fifty acres of oats which he stacked for feed. The river came up and got most of his wheat. His ten acres of Kaffir looks good but is late and he is not sure whether it will make feed or not. They have 100 nice Leghorn pullets. Mrs. Taylor was busy canning peaches and has 100 quarts up.

Billie Wayne Hall, 59, a 51-year Rock Island resident and longtime Rock Island businessman, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 1999 at Central Washington Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born on Apr. 20, 1939 at Zion, AR to Ewell and Tina Audrey (Fudge) Hall. When he was eight years old, he moved with his family to Orondo. They later moved to East Wenatchee and Bill attended East Wenatchee schools. Following his schooling, he worked in area orchards. He was married to Angela Maria Navone on Jan. 17, 1958 at Coeur d'Alene, ID. They made their first home together in East Wenatchee.

In April of 1969, they purchased the Rock Island Tavern, now known as the "Rock Bar and Grill" in Rock Island. Together they operated their business until retiring in 1982 and moving to Conconully where they operated the Hidden Treasure Resort.

In 1988, they returned to Rock Island and in 1993 they resumed the operation of the Rock Bar and Grill. He continued assisting until ill health forced him to retire.

Bill was a former member of Wenatchee Aerie #204 Fraternal Order of Eagles and had been a member of the 20-40 Active Club. Through their business they had sponsored men's and women's softball teams, stock car racing teams, blowing league teams, pool league teams and dart teams. He especially enjoyed dancing, socializing, hunting and fishing. He was a man's man and enjoyed being with the guys.

He is survived by his wife, Angel "Angie" Hall, Rock Island; three daughters, Lisa G. Bell, East Wenatchee, Dena M. Hall, Rock Island and Doris A. Hall-Johnson, Gig Harbor; his mother Tina A. Hall, Wenatchee; three brothers, Kirk Hall, Rock Island, Vaughn D. Hall, East Wenatchee and Paul D. Hall, East Wenatchee; five sisters, Donna Ellis, East Wenatchee, Scottie King, Cashmere, Charlotte Robertson, Troy, MT, Carolyn Hall-Marlin, East Wenatchee and Gail Hall, Wenatchee; four grandchildren, Patrick Sagdal, Seattle, Nicholas Hall-Johnson, Okanogan, Angela Ruthann Hall-Johnson, Rock Island, Brady J. Bell, East Wenatchee; his twin great-granddaughters, Kayla and Chelsea Houch, East Wenatchee and his lifelong friends, Travis Owens and Jack Cooper of Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his father, Ewell D. Hall, his daughter, Gina Rae Hall, one sister, Melba Stuart and one brother, Jerry D. Hall.

Commemoration services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, with the Reverend Paul Williams officiating. Concluding services and entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 5:30 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. and Saturday prior to the service. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in his name to the Alzheimer Wing at Parkside Care Center. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
