The Tulia Herald, 25 February 1954 AUTRY, Alvie L. Mrs. Funeral services for Mrs. Alvie L. Autry, 51, were conducted Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church. Rev. W. Neil Record, pastor and Rev. Ray Autry of Kingfisher, OK officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Autry died in Swisher County Hospital Thursday morning. She had undergone surgery several days before. A native of Brazos County, Mrs. Autry and her family came to Tulia in 1948. She and Mr. Autry owned and operated Autry Grocery at the northeast corner of the square in Tulia for the past 13 months. Mrs. Autry was an active member of the First Baptist Church and at the time of her death was serving as Superintendent of the Sunday School Primary Dept. Besides her husband, survivors include a daughter, Glendene Abernathy, a son Harold, a half sister, Mrs. Jack Manning of Bryan and a granddaughter. She was a sister of the late Clyde Carter.

David Tice Autry Jr., 72, of Tahuya died Feb. 4, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born July 2, 1927, in Oakdale, Calif., to David and Dona (Lemons) Autry. He was raised in Oakdale.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served until 1951. He was a Third Class Boiler Tender.
Mr. Autry was a foreman at Alpine Evergreen for 15 years. He retired as a welder and machinist from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a life member of VFW Post No. 239 in Bremerton and of the National Rifle Association. He also belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 117 in Bremerton and to the Cooties, Heap Good Tent No. 9.
He married Vicki M. Fox on Oct. 17, 1982, in Beaumont, Texas.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Nick and Phil Ruckman, both of Bremerton; a stepdaughter, Donna Holcomb of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Faye Rossini and Dorothy Garrison, both of Oakdale, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Mindy McPherson and Jason Ruckman, both of Portland, Ore., Nicky and Teresa Ruckman, both of Bremerton, Aaron, Rebecca, and Heather Ruckman, all of Belfair; and one great-grandchild.

Albuquerque Journal on December 13, 2003 AUTRY -- Eldon Winston "Gene" Autry, Major USMC (ret.), 83, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2003, following a short illness. His is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Ann Autry; daughter, Kelly A. Sandoval; two grandsons, Randy and Brandon Sandoval, all of Albuquerque; and many dear friends who will miss him dearly. Mr. Autry was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel and Ada Mae Autry; and his brother Leon. He was born in Marlow, OK on August 20, 1920. Mr. Autry attended high school in Marlow until the age of 17 when he joined the Military Service. He is a retired Major of the U.S. Marine Corps with 27 years of service. Mr. Autry was stationed at the Iceland Marine Regiment when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He served in the pacific for the remainder of WWII with the First Batalion, 22nd Marine Regiment. Mr. Autry participated in the assault and capture of Kawajalin, Eniwetok, Griam, and Okinawa. Post WWII, and he over saw duty at Camp Pendleton, CA, and Camp Lejune, NC. He was an instructor at the Marine Corps Jr. and Sr. Amphibious Warfare Schools in Quantico, VA. During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Autry served with the First Marine Division and also as an advisor to the Republic of the Korea Marine Corps. Returning to the Second Marine Division at Camp Lejune, NC, as Division Embarkation Officer, then to El Toro, CA as Embarkation Officer for Aircraft, Fleet Marine Forces in the Pacific area. After 27 years of dedication to the U. S. Marine Corps and to his country with high military honors, he retired to Albuquerque, where he was employed as District Office Manager for the U. S. Gypsum Company until 1971. Mr. Autry then joined the Carroll Bldg. Material Company from which he retired on November 30, 1982. He was a life long member of the VFW George O'Breece Post 401, MOC PT7, Fleet USS Reserve Branch 200, Military Order of Cooties #7, and the Marine Corps League. Mr. Autry was a role model as a husband, father, grandfather "gramps", and a friend to all. His goal in life was to serve his country with pride, dignity, and honor. He was respected and honored by all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Monday, December 15, 2003, 9:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, with Deacon Mark Bussemeier, officiating. Memorial services will be conducted by members of the following organizations, George O'Breece Post 401, Military Order of the Cooties #7, The Fleet Reserve, and the Marine Corps League. [Elijah and Mary Parish Autry were the great grandparents of Gene Autry, t he well known singer and western song and star of radio, movies, TV and rodeo. Another death date is September 22, 1858. A short biography of Elijah Autry see, "Biographical Sketchers of TN Ministers" by Joseph H. Barom; Memphis, 1880. States that Elijah was a baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church in Henderson Co, TN in 1838. The 1850 census gives his occupation as a wheelwright. He died after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while hunting. Elijah was also a Baptist preacher and was one of the founders of the Cross Roads Baptist Church in Benton Co, TN. Mt. Comfort Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery is located about halfway between Memphis and Nashville, TN in the beautiful Natchez Trace State Park 1/2 mile north of Interstate 40 on the only park exit. Signs lead the way to Maple Creek Lake. Mt. Comfort Chruch is 1/2 beyond the lake. There are no grave markers. (Medical):Accidently shot self while driving cattle out of field.
