Ralph Marshall Mulkey
RICHLANDS, Va. - Ralph Marshall Mulkey, 82, of Richlands, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002 at his home following a long illness.
Born in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Frazier and Mary Marshall Mulkey.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Nowlin, Mary Lena Giovia and Jane M. Dawson.
Mr. Mulkey is survived by his wife, Kathleen Gilbert Mulkey; one son, Michael Mulkey of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Jeri Clark of Cedar Bluff, Va.; son-in-law, Douglas P. Clark of Cedar Bluff; three brothers, Raymond Mulkey of Martinsville, Va., Frazier Mulkey Jr. of Narrows, Va. and Roger Mulkey of Lexington, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Phyllis Martin of Madison Heights, Va.; two grandchildren, Anna Christine Harvey of Mt. Morris, Pa. and Richard Shane Silcox of Cedar Bluff; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Wayne Harvey and Savannah Dawne Harvey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with the Revs. Grady McGlothlin and Barry Absher officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery, Claypool Hill, Va.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V. will conduct military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Sunday.

OBITUARY Monday, March 29, l965 Funeral services for Cicero Ward, 80, of l307 Piedmont Park Road, Taylor s, a retired textile employee, will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church by Rev. J. A. Cave, Rev. Cecil W. Cothran, and Rev. Roy Q. Gregg. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers, meeting at the church at 3:45 P.M., will be nephews: Delmer Scott, Billie Farrow, Bobbie Powers, Rev. Grady Hall, Joe Girardeau and W. Edward Girardeau. Honorary escort, meeting at the church at 3:50 P. M. , will be the Men's Bible Class No. l of the church, with Curt Enlow, Joe Barton, J. Everette Pittman, Rev. J. L. Hadaway, E. W. Wright, Marvin Moore, W. Sloan Rainey, John Witt, G. . Ausley, J. T. Rainey, Claude Cooley and Jack Landreth. Mr. Ward died Monday at l0:40 P. M. at a local hospital after a long period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Greenville Co, he was a son of the late Lum and Laura (Capps) Ward. For many years Mr. Ward lived at Poe Mill, where he worked in the carding department. For l9 years he has lived at Taylors. He was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday school. While living in the Poe Mill section, he was a member of Poe Mill Baptist Church, serving as deacon and treasurer of the church. His wife, Mrs. Letha Gilbert Ward, died in l955. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Everett Watson (Winnie), Mrs. A. C. Lister (Catherine), and Mrs. Preston Kestner (Annie), and two sons, M. C. and J. J. Ward of Greenville; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The body is at The Mackey Mortuary and will be placed in the church today at 3 P.M

OBITUARY MRS. WARD DIES; RITES THURSDAY Mrs. Letha Gilbert Ward, 70, of Piedmont Park, Rt. 2, Taylors, and a lifel ong resident of Greenville Co, died at a Greenville hospital at ll:40 P. M. Tuesday, following six months of illness. A daughter of the late Monroe and Emma (Rogers) Gilbert, she was born March 30, l884, in this city. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband, Cicero Ward; three daughters, Mrs. Everett Watson, Mrs. Preston Kestner and Mrs. Alton C. Lister; two sons, M. C. Ward and J. J. Ward, all of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Jezzie Scott and Mrs. Ailer Girardeau of this city, and Mrs. S. L. Bryson of California; two brothers, J. T. Gilbert Sr. and Hawthorne Gilbert of Greenville; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Mountain Creek Baptist Church Thursday at 4 P. M., conducted by the Rev. J. A. Cave, the Rev. Grange Cothran and the Rev. Cecil Cothran. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Delmer Scott, Louie Gilbert, Ed Girardeau, Sam Girardeau, Dr. John T. Gilbert, Jr. and Fred Gilbert will serve as pallbearers, and will meet at the residence at 3:20 P. M. The following are asked to serve as the escort of honor, and to meet at the church at 3:45 P. M.: Lloyd Hudson, Marvin Moore, Curtis Enlow, Alvin Moon, Sloan Rainey, Pete Mosteller, Everette Pittman, John Lister, W. W. Rodgers, Luther Rodgers, George Foister and John Witt. OBITUARY Greenville News March 11, 1921 MONROE GILBERT IS DEAD; BURIAL TODAY Monroe Gilbert died at his home on the Paris Mountain Road at 6 o'clock ye sterday afternoon, after an illness of five weeks. Mr. Gilbert is survived by Montie T., John Thomas, Matthew Hawthorne, and Jerry Gilbert and four daughters, Mrs. Sam Bryson (Mary), Mrs. Cicero Ward (Letha), Mrs. Pierce J. Scott (Jezzie), and Mrs. George Girardeau (Ailer). Funeral services will be held from Mountain Creek Church this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Howard officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Creek Cemetery.
