Dr. Mark Joseph Poole
Popular Gaffney optometrist
Dr. Mark Joseph Poole, 51, of 328 Furnace Road, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Desert Springs Hospital, Las Vegas, Nev.
Dr. Poole was the husband of Rebecca Ford Poole of the home and son of Malinda Black Poole of Gaffney and the late Dr. Edgar Morgan Poole Sr.
Dr. Poole was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he received a bachelor's of science degree in physiological optics and a doctorate of optometry. He served the people of Cherokee County for over 20 years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as the choir director, ward clerk and Boy Scout Council representative. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Limestone College Community Choir.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are four sons, Brent Poole of Provo, Utah, Nathan Poole, Adam Poole and Daniel Poole of the home; five daughters, Janelle Howard and husband, Jonathan, of Charlotte, Lisa Poole of Provo, Utah, Melody Rognan and husband, Cameron, of St. George, Utah, Crystal Poole and Sarah Poole of the home; three grandsons, Joseph, Jacob and Joshua Howard; four brothers, Dr. Edgar Poole Jr. of Spartanburg, Alan M. Poole of Eagle, Idaho, Dr. Benjamin C. Poole of Kings Mountain and Philip C. Poole of Gaffney.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Manfred Martin presiding. Body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at White Columns of Gaffney and at other times they will be at the home.

BLACKSBURG – Macie Richardson Ramsey, 75, of 1121 S. Charleston St., died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, N.C.
Mrs. Ramsey was the wife of Paul Ramsey of the home and daughter of the late George M. and Mary Ila James Richardson. She was a member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church and retired from Hamrick Mills.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Bolin and Darlene and Butch Self, all of Blacksburg; a nephew, Ronnie Holland of Blacksburg; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ramsey was preceded in death by brothers, Virgil Richardson, Vernie Richardson and Junior Richardson, and a sister, Louise Jones.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, conducted by Bishop Don Horton and the Revs. Broadus Heatherly and Tim Knotts. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Self, David Yanello, Robert Crotts, Olin Ramsey, Ralph Ramsey and Chris McCord.

Archie Elliott Wyatt, 83, of 118 N. Oliver St., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Mr. Wyatt was the husband of Ann Batchler Wyatt of the home and was first married to the late Olivine Nash Wyatt. He was the son of the late Tom and Annie Burgess Wyatt and was retired from Piedmont Natural Gas. He was currently associated with Willard's Hash and Barbecue and was a World War II veteran and member of the VFW and American Legion.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jackie Wyatt Simmons and husband, Billy, of Gaffney; a son, Steven E. Wyatt and wife, Leslie, of Columbia; two grandchildren, Scott and Katie Simmons; and a sister, Ruth Wyatt Weathers of Pacolet.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Wyatt was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur Wyatt, Clarence Wyatt, Ernest Wyatt, Jake Wyatt, Lewis Wyatt, Tommie Wyatt and Winford Wyatt.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Stuart Kersey.
Pallbearers will be Phil Fowler, Thomas Wyatt, Jerry Wyatt, Dennis Wyatt, David Wyatt, Tony Wyatt and Tim Wyatt.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at White Columns of Gaffney and at other times they will be at the home, and at the home of his daughter, 116 Carter Heights Drive.

Mary Ann Sarratt, 100, of Brookview HealthCare Center, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at 7:05 p.m. in Up-state Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of William Sarratt and daughter of the late Allen Dowdle and the late Carrie Hughes Dowdle. She was a member of Mikes Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Sarratt was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Dowdle and James Jerome Dowdle, and a daughter, Essie Mae Dowdle Hopper.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Julia Dowdle, of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Brenda Green, 604 E. Jefferies St.

BOILING SPRINGS – Alice Stanford Johnson Martin, 81, of 320 Vineyard Road, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of O'Neal Martin and was first married to the late J.B. Johnson. She was the daughter of the late Will Stanford and the late Bertha Griffin Stanford. She was a homemaker and member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Wilson of Boiling Springs; a sister, Ila Mabry of Spartanburg; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Johnny, Ben and Miles Stanford; and two sisters, Lucille Johnson and Lola Tate.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James Rutledge. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Charles (Charlie) Winston Wilson, 84, of 221 Mill St., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Tuskegee, Ala., he was the husband of Elizabeth (Lib) Branom Wilson and son of the late John Harvey Wilson and the late Ocie Mae Waters Wilson. He was retired from AT&T and was a member of East Gaffney Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Charles T. Wilson, Douglas E. Wilson, both of Gaffney, Gary M. Wilson of Chesnee and Stanley M. Wilson of Simi Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Murel Pope of Montgomery, Ala., and Betty Jean Huff of Birmingham, Ala.; three brothers, John Harvey Wilson, Thomas Earl Wilson and James K. Wilson, all of Montgomery, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frank Swearington, and a brother, Edward H. Wilson.
The family is at the home of a son, Douglas E. Wilson, 512 S. Limestone St.
