General Notes: Wife -

Charlotte May Holdaway, passed away at her home May 16, 2004 in Gilroy. She was 84.

Charlotte was born February 26, 1920 in Richmond, Calif., to the late Arthur Fawcett and Nina Knighton. Her early years were spent in Yolo County and later moved to Richmond where she met and married Hall Eldred Holdaway on June 25, 1938.

They were later sealed to each other at the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple and became one of the founding families of Harmony Hills, San Juan Bautista. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family along with her strong faith and activity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sewing, drama and poetry. She and her husband were owners of Gilroy Ambulance and H & B Electric and will be remembered by many as the hat lady.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hall Eldred Holdaway.

She is survived by her sister, Erelda Blanche Cruze; and brother, Mervyn Arthur Fawcett; beloved mother of David Holdaway and his wife, Anne, of Gilroy, Diane Holdaway of Crescent City, Denise Stiers and her husband, David, of Gilbert, Ariz., Steven Holdaway and his wife, Cathy, of Aptos, and Michael Holdaway of Los Angeles; grandmother of Dean, Michelle, Tracy, Melinda, Richard, Megan, Christine, Kevin, Charnell, Hilary, Miranda, Seth, Jenae, Lauryn and Justin; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister of Betty Kelsey and her husband, Harold, of Gilroy and Linda Wyman and her husband James of Casa Grande, Ariz. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will take place Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7999 Miller Ave., Gilroy beginning with a viewing at 1 p.m. and funeral starting at 2 p.m.. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park. Habing Family Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.

Wayne A. Yarns, 85 A memorial service for Wayne A. Yarns of Estherville, Iowa, was held Saturday morning, Oct. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Jackson, with Pastor Paul Kobi officiating. Wayne A. Yarns died Oct. 15, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, Iowa. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Jackson. Music was provided by organist Dorothy Zimmerli and soloist Dwight Raddatz.

Ushers were Fat Kielblock and Merle Thompson. Arrangements were in care of the Sathe-Osterberg Funeral Home of Jackson.

Wayne Angus Yarns, son of Harry A. and Ella (Libra) Yarns, was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Middletown Township, Jackson County. He grew up on the family homestead in Middletown Township and graduated from Jackson High School.

On Sept. 5, 1941, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Hendricks. After marriage, they farmed for six years on a farm south of Lakefield and then moved into Jackson, where Wayne joined his father in the operation of the Jackson Cold Storage butcher shop. In the mid ?60s, they moved to Bridgeport, Conn., and to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1970. Wayne continued to work in the meat cutting business until his retirement. Phyllis died on June 19, 1981. On July 3, 1983, Wayne married Ruth Feddersen at the Estherville Lutheran Church and joined her in Estherville, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his years.

Wayne was a member of the Jackson United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was an active member of the congregation. He was Past Master of the Jackson Masonic organization. He enjoyed golfing and gardening. As a young man, he was well known for his fielding abilities as third base in the local baseball leagues.

Wayne is survived by his second wife, Ruth Feddersen of Estherville; one son, Douglas and wife Evelin Yarns of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kerstin and husband Richard Mason of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Dr. Vicky Yarns of Atlanta, Ga.; and one great-grandson, Elijah Mason.

Other survivors include one sister, Hazel and husband James Swanson of Gresham, Ore.; one brother, Keith and wife LaVon Yarns of Jackson; and five stepchildren, Karolyn and husband Ivan Werstiuk of Glendon, Alberta, Canada, Larry Feddersen of Bullhead City, Ariz., Jim Feddersen of Cody, Wyo., Steve and wife Deb Feddersen of Iowa City, Iowa, and Kolleen and husband Marv Pattison of Graettinger, Iowa; 13 step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Phyllis; one sister, June Murray; and one brother, Dale Yarns.

Sherman Vick Holmes, 89, of the 5900 block of Hattie St., died April 8, 2004, at Veterans Medical Hospital in Richmond. He was born in Milport, Ky., the son of the late John and Emily Higgs Holmes.
