General Notes: Husband -

from Pearl Snell's book; Edward Watson and his parents, William and Jane Bathia Watson, came to America from England. Edward and his father came east from California. Edward was a stonecutter. Just prior to coming to Duncan Township where he met and married Nancy Epperly, he had helped erect the Mormon Temple at Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1853 he built the stonehouse NW of Millersburg, Illinois known to early residents of the community as the 'Watson House.' His father William Watson was born about January 24, 1804 in England and died January 12, 1889. His wife Jane Bathia Watson was born in England and buried in Pomona, California, July 12, 1887. William Watson received 169.25 acres of land as a land grant from the United States government. The Stone House was built on a part of this land grant.

CLAIR W. MORROW CLAIR W. MORROW, 100 ALEDO - Clair W. Morrow, 100, of Aledo died Friday, March 12, 2010, in Heritage Woods. Born Oct. 19, 1909, in Millersburg Township, Mercer County, to Frank and Florence Willets Morrow. Clair married Pearl Epperly on Dec. 25, 1931, in Dwight. He farmed for more than 40 years near Joy and raised hogs and cattle. Survivors include sons, Blaine Morrow of Statham, Ga., Larry (Sharon) Morrow of Rye, Texas, Dwight (Marilyn "JoJo") Morrow of Rockford; and numerous grandchildren, great-grand-children and great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; wife; an infant son; sister, Helen; brother, Warren; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Lee. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fippinger Funeral Home, with visitation one hour before service time. Burial in Peniel Cemetery, Joy. General Notes: Husband -

As far as we know both of William Epperly's grandfathers, Jacob Eberle/Epperly and William Morgel/Morricle came from Germany. His maternal grandfather, William Morricle and his father, Christian Epperly and his uncles were charter members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Montgomery County, Virginia. William and his cousin Jacob married Wade sisters who were probably English. William and Alley stayed in Montgomery County for about 7 years where four of their children were born, Luanna, Elizabeth, Matilda and Christian. In 1827 several families moved to Wayne County, Indiana including William and Alley and their children, Jacob and his wife, Elizabeth (Wade) Epperly and their children, and Jacob's parents George and Maria (Morricle) Epperly and their children. William and Alley moved to Mercer County, Illinois in 1836 and Jacob and 'Betsy' moved to Muscatine County, Iowa (across the Mississippi River from Mercer County) in the 1840s. Apparently the families remained close through the years.

Here is William's obituary: EPPERLY RITES ON WEDNESDAY Former Duncan Supervisor Dies Sunday Night 85 Years Old William E. Epperly, son of A. J. and Levina Epperly was born in Duncan township, March 31, 1860 and died in a Tri-city hospital Sunday, August 19, 1945 at 6:45 P.M. On Feb. 22, 1882, he was married to Vienna Gilmore of Millersburg. They began housekeeping on a farm adjoining his father's and lived there, with the exception of four years spent in NE 1886 to 1890, until he retired from farming and moved to Joy in 1915. To this union were born three children; one girl who died in infancy and two sons that survive; Clyde L. of Aledo and Emery G. of Joy. His wife passed away in 1934 but he continued to live in his home until ill health caused him to leave and go to his sons'. He was there until a few weeks ago when he was taken to the hospital in which he passed away. He united with the Presbyterian church in Millersburg when a young man and was still a member there until his death. He took an active interest in politics and was a supervisor from Duncan township for several years. Besides the two sons, he is survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, Elmer of Biggsville and Harry of Los Angeles; four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Bryant of Joy, Mrs. Cora Gilmore of Los Angeles, Mrs. Ella Harney and Mrs. Bertha Kistler of Monta Vista, CO The funeral was held in Sherrard chapel Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was in Millersburg Cemetery. Rev. Dickerson, a former pastor of Joy officiated. The pallbearers were his grandsons and nephews, Leroy Epperly, Marion Epperly, Robert Gates, Harold Bryant, Maynard Fender and Leonard Epperly. Graveside services for Louie Jean "Lou" Erickson, 67, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. A life celebration will follow at the St. Maries Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Erickson, who was born in Driggs, Idah, died Saturday.
She grew up in Driggs and in Vancouver, Wash., and graduated from high school in Vancouver in 1948. Mrs. Erickson moved to Hayden Lake, Idah, after graduation an lived in Coeur d' Alene before moving to the Benewah Valley near St. Maries in 1973. She was a homemaker and owned the Yardstick Sewing Store before working at the Triple X feed store until 1990. Mars Erickson was a member of the Mormon Chuch and the Valley Peace Makers Quild Club.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce; a son, Alvin Erickson of Post Falls; six daughter, Catherine Erickson of Hayden Lake, Cynthia Hodges of St. Maries, Candice Lyman, Carren Day and Tonie Miller, all of Post Falls, and Carla Erickson of Seattle; three brothers, Larry and Clint Stevens, both of Hayden Lake, and Marvin Stevens of Chelan, Wash.; three sisters, Donna Beranos of the Tri-Cities, Karolyn Sejo of Elma, Wash., and Cheryl McAtee of Lewiston; 22 Grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
