Fay Kirk Arnn

SIDNEY -- Fay Kirk Arnn, 87, of Sidney died Saturday, June 11, at White River Medical Center at Batesville.

Born in Izard County, she was a graduate of Sidney High School and Arkansas College at Bate-sville. She was an educator for 28 years and began her career in a 1-room school house, known as "The Mouth," located between Cord and Strawberry. She also taught at Mount Pleasant and Kiaser before the onset of World War II. During the war, she worked as a government munitions inspector at the Arkansas Ordinance Plant at Jacksonville.

After the war she resumed her teaching career which included schools at Sidney, Evening Shade and Cave City. She retired from the Cave City School District in 1979.

Survivors include one son, Joe Lloyd Arnn of Sidney; one daughter, Nancy Ratliff of Cave City; three grandchildren, Kirk Ratliff and Jeremy Ratliff, both of Cave City, and Jodi Arnn Moody of Sidney; and four great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Arnn, her parents, Phillip and Duetta Sims Kirk, and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sidney Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery at Sidney under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bray, Max Cole, Boyce Foreman, Gene Foreman, Mark Herrington, Fletcher Kizzar, Joe Stidman and Dale Weaver

Her full name at birth was Emma Erbanna Parsons, named for her maternal grandmother (Emma, short for Emmalizer plus in honor of Mrs. Urbanna Blalock). I have seen Mrs. Blalock's name spelled as Urbanna, Urbauna, and Erbanna.(ref:1880 Census Laurens Co., SC But Aunt Bann's is written in early family documents as Erbanna..

She is enumerated in 1900 as Banna E. Parsons, boarding in Greenville, SC, where she was a 17 yr old student. In the book History of Woodruff by Mrs. Irby, she is referred to as Mrs. Banna P. Arnold.

Their son, Samuel Henry Arnold is buried at Bethel Cemetery in Woodruff, SC. (As are Uncle Claud and Aunt Bann)

Jessamine Marie Jefferson
Jessamine Marie Jefferson, 90, of Kansas City, formerly of Monett, Mo., died Feb. 7, 2006, at Kingswood Health Center in Kansas City.
Mrs. Jefferson was born Aug. 28, 1915, in Barry County, Mo., the daughter of Luster Benton Arnold and Cleta Marie Hawk Arnold. She lived in Monett from 1951 to 2000, and owned and operated the Shelter Insurance Agency with her husband for over 30 years. She joined Red Bridge United Methodist Church in Kansas City after many years as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett, where she was famous for her chocolate pies. She was also a member of the Ruth Circle, Hawthorne Literary Club and Tri Psi Mother's Sorority. She volunteered with Monett Loaves and Fishes for many years.
She was married to James Lyle Jefferson for 58 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Mosby, Sally Ryan and Lyla Perrodin and husband, Rory, of Kansas City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, in 1995; her daughter, Nancy Jefferson; grandson, Shannon Mosby, in 1963; sisters, Kathryn Thomas and Martella Daniels; and two infant siblings.
Services will be on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home, of Monett. Burial will be in Monett IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the funeral home.

In 1878, moved with his parents to a farm 2 miles north, 5 3/4 miles west of Burlington, KS where he spent most of his younger years. Moved to Willow Springs, MO after marriage for several years, then back to Coffey Co, west of Strawn, KS, and then to CA until 1926. Moved back to a farm south of Strawn (not far from where he grew up) until his death. Played in band. HIST: OBITUARY OF HENRY DELOICE MEANS 1869-1935 HIST: "H. D. MEANS LAID TO REST IN BAKER CEMETERY MONDAY" HIST: The funeral of H. D. Means was held at the Methodist Church in Burlington on Monday afternoon, December 16, 1935, and was attended by a large crowd of friends and neighbors. Rev. W. C. Chappell preached a sermon full of consolation and hope to the ones left to mourn his passing on. A male quartet composed of Jesse Baxter, Hayward Theobald, Harry Henry, and Harry McCormick sang "Beautiful Isle", "The Old Rugged Cross", and "Some Sweet Day" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. T. T. Kelly. The pallbearers were Robert Steele, Wm. Hughes, E. B. Cleaveland, Relna Kimble, Frank Keith, and Clarence Fitch. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. HIST: Henry Deloice Means, son of Henry and Ellenor Means, was born September 10, 1869 in Woodburn, Iowa. In the year of 1878 he moved with his parents to a farm northwest of Burlington where he spent the most of his young life. On August 12, 1896 he was united in marriage to Lillie Arnold, who survives him. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Willow Springs, Mo. After a few years spent in Missouri they moved back to Coffey County, then moving to California. In the spring of 1926 they moved back to Burlington and located on a farm not far from where he spent his childhood days and where he resided up to the time of his death which occurred at Christ Hospital at Topeka on December 13, 1935. HIST: Loice, as he was known by every one, was of a quiet unassuming nature, always ready to lend a helping hand in the upbuilding of the community in which he lived. He was raised by good christian parents, always a regular attendant at Sunday School and church when a young man. About 26 years ago he was united with the Methodist church at Strawn, where he was a regular attendant until his health began to fail a few years ago. He was a man of high integrity, honest in all his dealings. Having a musical talent, he was always happy when singing and playing cheerful anthems to cheer the downhearted or songs of sympathy for the broken homes. HIST: While the home tie is broken, his wife and friends who are numbered by the score, realize had his days been prolonged, they would only have been days of intense suffering and feel his passing on was our loss but his gain, and the door only closed here to open on the fairer land where earthly cares are ended and happiness reigns supreme. Besides the heartbroken wife, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Arnold, Springfield, Missouri; Miss Annie Means, Glendale, California; three brothers, J. L. Means, Wichita; Joseph Means, Glendale, California; and Herbert Means of Chandler, Arizona. Several nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends and neighbors who mingle their tears with those of the bereaved wife. HIST: Relatives who attended the funeral from a distance were; J. L. Parents died of Typhoid Fever when she was age 6 and was raised by the Rosecrans family near Erie, KS until age 16. Moved to Burlington, KS after death of husband. Had a bedspread made by the Rosecrans that she made into pincushions for many years and gave to friends. Sewing and dressmaking.

Information for biography copied from newspaper clippings of the Princevil le Telephone and other remembrances collected from my mother, Eleanor Ruth Harrison Parker.

Robert played the part of Tim Shannon, an old salt in the play, The Bo'enis Bride. The play took place at the Dunlap High School on 3/24/19__.

On May 8, 1925, Dunlap High School had a Music and Declamation Contest, which was held in Shehan's Hall, and Robert declaimed "The Failure" by Hocking.

He was on the Dunlap High School basketball team, and they were guests of a banquet the Beau titian club held at Stiegele's hall. This event honored the team for the great work they did during the season.

Robert was valedictorian of the Dunlap High School graduating class of 1927, and Baccalaureate Service was held at the Methodist church, on a Sunday evening, May 29th.

While attending the University of IL, Robert was President, University of IL Athletic Council from 1933-1934. Senior Football Manager at the university from 1933-1934. Member, Sachem and Ma Wan Da, Junior and Senior Activities Honorary Fraternities, University of IL. Received National Activities Award of Alpha Gamm Rho, social agricultural fraternity in 1933.

Robert's business connection: Assistant Direct Armour's Livestock Bureau, Armour and Company form June 1934 (need date from start). Involved in agricultural research activities, needing allot of travel in the Cornbelt and Western states. During 1941-1942 he addressed and attended 22 meetings, exclusive of Junior Chamber, in 16 states.

While working for the Armour Packing Company in Chicago, he was promoted.

Elected Commercial Officers, Junior Association of Commerce of Chicago. And his term was president was from June 1940 to June 1941. At the time, Robert was still with the Armour Packing Company in Chicago, as an assistant director of livestock bureau.

After working for the Amour Packing Company, Robert left for a new job and his new address at that time was The Miller Publishing Company 2832 Board of Trade Building, 141 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, Cook Co, IL.

Also, Robert was involved in public relations, Watts Publishing, Title and Trust.

Robert and Fred Gibert were buyers of the Lillie M. Evans estate, in which the farm brought $420 an acre at the sale. The farm was 180 acres located south of Princeville. They paid $75,600.

Robert was vice-presidential candidate for the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce, and he won the election. This election took place at the annual meeting and war conference June 17-30.

Before the election, he served five terms on the board of directors of the Junior Association of Commerce of Chicago, including two terms as vice-president and in the year 1940-1941 was president. The preceding year, Robert represented the 22 Junior Chambers of Commerce in IL as a member of the national board of directors.

Essie Rollins Arnold, Greenville Essie Rollins Arnold, 79, of 111 Parkwood Drive, died March 3, 2001.

Born November 18, 1921, in Woodruff, she was the widow of Sam H. Arnold of Greenville and daughter of the late Melvina G. and John W. Rollins of Woodruff.

Mrs. Arnold attended Converse College and Montreat College. She had been active in various music organizations in the Greenville area and was currently involved with the Greenville Senior Band and entertained locally at nursing homes throughout the area. She was a former organist and choir director at Third Presbyterian Church.

Her late husband was leader and organizer of the Club Serenaders Orchestra, where she performed as pianist weekly for 37 years at the Greenville Elks Club B.P.O.E. This also involved various ballroom dance clubs throughout North Carolina.

She was a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church, Greer.

She is survived by three daughters, Annette A. Stubbs and Lucy P. Arnold, both of Greenville, and Rebecca P. Foote of Easley; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive. Officiating pastors will be the Rev. Martin H. Martin, the Rev. Parker Marks and Dr. James L. Macleod. Burial will follow in Woodruff First Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the mortuary Monday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice, 414-A Pettigru St., Greenville, SC 29601, to Thornwell Home and School for Children, P. O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325, or Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 1105 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, SC 29650.

The family asks that all local musicians in attendance serve as honorary pallbearers.
