On the 1860 census, D.N. Dalton listed has profession as 'farmer, merchant, tobacconist'. He and his wife Margaret had four children in the house.

On 1850 census, Colonel Chafin (?) age 30, John Westmoreland age 12, Edwin Young age 12, and Calvin Young age 14, were all living with Nicholas Dalton. Nicholas and his family were located 5 families away from Christena.

Bible of David Nicholas Dalton, Jr.

David founded the town of Dalton, NC, was a wealthy planter, and a slave holder. He was also one of the first to successfully manufacture tobacco in Stokes Co., NC. He kept a stage station on the noted Tenn. thoroughfare where his stockyards offered accommodations for 2,000 head of cattle, hogs and turkeys. His old home, Hall House, still stands.

THE YADKIN VALLEY NEWS - Thursday, July 4, 1895 D. N. DALTON, age 74 years, died at Dalton on Monday. The depot near his house was named for him. he was married twice; his first wife was from Chatham Co. Six children blessed this union, 4 boys and 2 girls. One daughter married DR. A. G. JONES of Walnut Cove; the other, DR. M. D. PHILLIPS of Dalton. The sons were DR. D. N. DALTON, R. E. DALTON, R. I. DALTON and EARNEST DALTON of this city. Lila Stones Whipple

Lila, much loved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away May 17, 2007 in her home in West Jordan at the age of 82. Lila Betty Kipp was born in Salt Lake City on May 8, 1925. She graduated from West High School, and married R. G. Dalton from Paragonah. They had one daughter, Linda Rae. R. G. died in an accident at the iron mines near Cedar City shortly after returning home from World War II. Lila married James R. Stones (later sealed in the Jordan River Temple), and they made their home in Paragonah. They were blessed with three children, Barbara Ann, James Kip, and Shane Ray. After Jim's untimely death, Lila returned to school, graduated from college, and fulfilled a life long goal of becoming an RN. She started her nursing career at Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City. She married William Whipple; later divorced. Lila moved to St. George where she worked at Dixie Medical Center and was asked to help organize and establish a maternity department. She was a much loved and respected nurse who welcomed thousands of babies into the world. ADVERTISEMENT After 28 years of nursing, Lila retired at age 70 and bought a house in West Jordan to be close to family. She loved her home and wonderful neighbors and friends in the West Jordan 21st Ward, and so appreciated their support and kindness as her health declined. Lila will be remembered for her winning smile and her warm friendly personality. She was the model of compassion, love, and generosity. She offered others a hug, a shoulder to cry on, and a nonjudgmental ear. Lila loved cooking, birthdays, Christmas, toys, sewing, making children happy, and the comforts of home. She is preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Michael, and sister, Jean; sons, Kip and Shane; granddaughter, Vanessa Lowe. Lila is survived by daughters, Barbara (Ron) Crawford, West Jordan and Linda (Raymond) Lowe, St. George/SLC; grandchildren, Jason (Shannon) Lowe, Damon (Carlie) Lowe, SLC, Justin (Christy) Lowe, St. George, Jami (John Rowland), Kip Crawford, West Jordan, and Staci Crawford, San Pedro, CA; adored great-grandchildren, Dylan, Sky, Marley, A. J., Kennedy, Gabe, Cam, Reagan Lowe, E'dee Crawford and Austin White. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 1st at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff Street, St. George from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2nd at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel on Bluff Street at 12:00 noon. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Interment: Paragonah, Utah. Family and friends will go directly to the Paragonah Cemetery after the funeral services where Lila will be laid to rest at approximately 3:30 p.m. Lila always had a great concern for others and never wanted anyone to go hungry. Frank E. Damrel, 73, of Oregon City, Ore., and formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away Oct. 8, 2007, at the hospital in Ore-gon City.

Frank was born on May 19, 1935, the son of Marvin and Ma-rie Damrel.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Damrel; a brother, Roger D. Campbell of Centralia; a sister, Rose M. Damrel of Collinsville; two stepsisters, Mildred Kell and Dorothy Sesney, both of Mt. Vernon; a stepbrother, William Campbell of Kentucky; stepsons, Don Wood and David Harrison; a stepdaughter, Katherine (Harrison) Fotch; and several cousins, nephews, nieces, grandsons, and great-grandsons and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by one stepbrother, Hobart Camp-bell Jr.

Frank served in the U.S. Navy from June 1951 to December 1961.

As per his request, he was cremated.

Memorial services will be held Oct. 19, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Orange, Calif. Interment will be at Westminster Memorial Park in Orange, Calif.

Memorials may be made to Doerncecher Childrens Hospital, 3181 Southwest Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, Ore. 97239, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Frank Damrel died Oct. 8, 2007, at age 73.
He was born May 19, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, Ill. He served in the Navy. He was a truck driver who moved to Oregon City two years ago. In 2004 he married Jean Hicks.
Survivors include his wife; stepdaughter, Katherine Fotch; stepsons, Don Wood and David Harrison; sister, Rosemarie; brother, Roger Campbell; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

According to family stories, John Danby got tired of long church services at 17 and left for the sea. He got a job on a ship and landed in Canada. From there he got to IL, where he married Martha.
General Notes: Wife -

According to family lore, Martha's family had money but lost it. A note from a British Sackville: "My Sackville/Sackfield family can be traced back to the mid . 1750s in Flintshire, North Wales. They moved to Lancashire about 1790; and there are some 1,500 direct descendants from a 1793 marriage - most in the USA, but some still in Lancashire . I have all the details. Going back there are Sackvilles in the Llanasa area of Flintshire from the 1600s. Sackville is used as a first name and as a surname.

"Now it would appear the name first appeared in the area around 1580 or so. A couple of local gentry served as secretaries to the Sackvilles who then occupied Knole. One christened his son Sackville; another incorporated the Sackville arms on his local house (still there - built 1620s). My only supposition is that our Sackville may be bastard descendants of these families; or bastard descendants of the Kent family, sent up to North Wales to get them out of the way. The present Lord Sackville wondered about this theory. Certainly the Sackvilles in the 17th century were notorious rakes - one "had" Nell Gwynne before Charles II !!!"

His father was Albert Whitney Danforth of Lowell, MA. Albert was an engineer and went to China to build the first cotton mill for the Chinese, which went into operation in 1883. Fred's mother was Lulu Fayetta Hacker, daughter of Capt. John Hacker of Cairo, IL, who was a Mississippi Riverboat Captain, and Fanny Posey. Lulu went to China around 1896 to visit her Aunt Mary who was a missionary in Shanghai. She met Albert while she was in China and they were married there on November 5, 1898. They had three children: (1) Albert "Skip" Hacker Danforth, b. 1899 in Shanghai; (1) Grace Violet Danforth, b. 1902 in Shanghai; and (3) Fredrick Corsar Danforth, b. 1905 near Shanghai. Albert died rather young and Lulu Fayetta Hacker Danforth returned with her children to the USA in 1909, settling first in Lowell, MA, and later in Cairo, IL.
Susan's father obtained her DAR membership through Col. Thomas Posey, her gr. gr. gr. gr. grandfather. Rumors have existed since 1750 that Thomas was the natural son of President George Washington, and looked like Thomas when he was a lad. In December 2008, World Families announced that Posey DNA shows that Thomas was not a Posey and that it was probably due to a "paternal event". Possibly, the rumors may be true. Ha! Ha! Would be nice, but I don't know how anyone will be able to obtain some DNA from George Washington.

Walter Lewis II was the eldest child of Walter Lewis and Clara Anita Gulledge Dodson.
Lewis was a wonderful older brother. He married his high school sweetheart and together they raised five children - "2 boys, twins and a girl" as he used to say. He worked hard all his life in the furniture making business in the Roanoke area. He was active in the church and lived his life in accordance to his strong beliefs. His knowledge of the Bible was uncanny, being able to quote chapter & verse whenever necessary and to backup his beliefs with rational thought and down to earth explanations

CREEDMOOR -- HAZEL Daniel ROBERTS, 92, a resident of 1194 Beaver Dam Rd., died Tuesday, February 22, at her home.

A native of Granville County, the daughter of the late Graham and Bettie Wheeler Daniel and the widow of Battle C. ROBERTS. A member of Creedmoor United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Creedmoor Untied Methodist Church by the Rev. Everett France. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are three daughters, Bettye R. Moody, of Greensboro, Joanne R. Allen, of Wilson, Jeanne R. Rouse, of Durham, a son, Gary Daniel ROBERTS, of Creedmoor, a brother, Ottis C. Daniel of Creedmoor, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. A daughter, Madelene R. Steele preceded her in death.
