Great grandfather of Elizabeth Anne Vestal-Miller, who has provided much information on Cox-Gilley families. She would be a 6th cousin to Charlotte Rae Dammeyer. Jessie Ben Cox had a son, Jesse Edward Cox, who had a daughter Elizabeth Mason Cox, who married Warner B. Vestal. The latter are the parents of Anne Vestal-Miller.

Jesse Ben Cox was reared on his father's farm in Ridgeway, VA. He also became a farmer and lived to age 95. As an elderly man, he used to visit his son, Jesse E. Cox in Bassett, VA. His great-granddaughter, Anne Vestal Miller, clearly remembered seeing him on one of those visits. He was thin with a full head of white hair and a white beard. He always walked with a cane

Despite this he was a very good bird hunter, kept a kennel of purebred pointers, and was a good marksman. He also loved to fish and play practical jokes. He was a dedicated democrat who never shrank from an election bet. He had an outgoing personality and many friends. He is buried in the Old Cox Cemetery on VA Route 632, Ridgeway, VA. One of the author's earliest memories of her grandfather were the Sunday afternoons in Fall when she would go with him to exercise his purebred hunting dogs. There was a hillside pasture in back of his house where he would take his dogs to run to get in shape for the coming hunting season. Services for Mrs. Lorraine Cox Draper, 86, formerly of Basset, Va., were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. Burial followed in Roselawn Burial Park. Rev. Lew Bennett officiated. Mrs. Draper was born on August 31, 1918 in Henry County, Va. She was a homemaker and a former member of First Baptist Church of Bassett. She was preceded in death by her mother, Banner Harris Cox; her father, Jesse Edwards Cox; her husband, John Jefferson Draper; and her sisters, Elizabeth Vestal, Mildred Bowling and Lucille Cox. She died Friday at Dublinaire Nursing Home in Dublin. Survivors include her sons, Lewis A. Draper of Staunton, Va. and John E. Draper of Dublin; her brother, Harry F. Cox of Rocky Mount, Va.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Roselawn Funeral Chapel of Martinsville, Va. is in charge of arrangements. Townsend Brothers Funeral home is in charge of local arrangements.

She died in Center Township, Calhoun County, Iowa on 4 December 1931 and was buried in Cottonwood Cemetery, near Lake City, Calhoun County, Iowa on 6 December 1931. I have been sent a copy of her death certificate, where son Charles H. PUCKETT was listed as the informant. A family file created by her late granddaughter lists her name as Loucetta, while the death certificate uses the spelling Lousetta.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 4, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Elder Glenn Webb officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 4, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Mrs. Vaughn was born on July 13, 1918 in Williamson County, Illinois to Lloyd and Ella (Kelley) Cox. Survivors include three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Opal Houghlan of Phoenix, Arizona, Margie Cox of Phoenix, Arizona and Jeanette and Bob Kirby of Goreville; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Judy Cox of Marion and sister-in-law, Faye Simmons of Goreville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son, Gary Vaughn; brother, Lloyd Cox, Jr.; and sister, Audra Wolf. Mrs. Vaughn was a member of McKinney Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from the Choate Mental Health Hospital in 1978 after 20 years of service as a commissary manager. REIDSVILLE - Robert T. Cox, 81, of 8249 Highway 87 died Saturday, September 18, 1993, at his home.

Funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

A native of Stoneville, he was co-owner of Cox & Ware Construction Company (Grading Contractors). He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a former chairman of Building & Grounds Committee, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are wife, Wilma Ware Cox of the home; daughters, Betty O'Bryant, Peggy Matthews both of Reidsville; son, Richard Cox of Wilmington; seven grandchildren; sister, Elva Hines.

REIDSVILLE-- Dora Wilma Ware Cox, 95, of 125 Canterbury Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at her residence.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Cox was born in Caswell County to the late Joseph Earl and Dora Roberts Ware. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Taylor Cox and son Robert Taylor Cox Jr.

She is survived by her son, Richard E. Cox and wife Linda of Wilmington; daughters, Peggy Cox Matthews and husband Calvin and Betty Cox OBryant and husband John, all of Reidsville; grandchildren, Michelle Turner and husband Clark, Sandee Key and husband John, Kevin Matthews, Eric Matthews and fianc Crystal Loftis, Derek Hales and wife Shannon, Brandee Chandler and husband Robbie, Kim White and husband Thomas; great-grandchildren, Caroline Turner, Hannah Turner, Carson Key, Taylor Key, Wade Chandler, Shelby Chandler, Julie Chandler, Lucas Hales, Maggie Hales, Sean White, Brittany White; brother Herbert Ware of Reidsville; special caregivers, Roxanna Richardson and Wylean Henderson.
