General Notes: Husband -

Dairl was born May 6, 1918, at the family homestead in Wright County, Mo.

He served in World War II as a U.S. Army Air Corps airman. From 1957 to 1976, he was employed by General Tire and Rubber Co. In 1976, he became store manager with the Redburn Tire Co. of Cortez, and worked there until his retirement in 1987.

He then moved to Marshfield to enjoy his retirement, spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; four daughters: Bonnie (Lyle) Christensen, Blair, Neb.; Judy Moore (Dale), Blair, Neb.; Cheryl (Jerry) Zwally, and Carolyn (Ramon) Valdez, both of Marshfield; son Douglas (Dee) Claxton, Phoenix; a brother, Dale (Betty) Claxton, Omaha, Neb.; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Dairl was preceded in death by his son, Dale Claxton of Cortez.

Funeral services were held Aug. 10 at Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield, with the Rev. Jim Ragsdale officiating. Burial, with military honors conferred by the Webster County Veterans Memorial Association, was at the Marshfield Cemetery.

Dale Dewain Claxton May 29, 1998

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Montezuma-Cortez High School football field for Dale Dewain Claxton, a Cortez police officer who died Friday, May 29, 1998, in Cortez, Colo., after being shot in his patrol car. He was 45.

The Rev. Michael Thornton and Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane will officiate. Burial will be at the Cortez Cemetery.

Mr. Claxton was born March 15, 1953, in Omaha, Neb. He was raised in the Denver area and moved to Cortez in 1973. He graduated from the Delta-Montrose Tech Center with his peace officer certificate in 1995 and joined the Cortez Police Department that year.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Claxton of Cortez; father, Dairl Claxton of Marshfield, Mo.; mother, Agnes Claxton of Marshfield, Mo.; daughters, Judy Claxton Choate of Niagra, Mo., and Caitlin Claxton of Cortez; sons, Colton Claxton of Buffalo, Mo., and Corbin Claxton of Cortez; sisters, Bonnie Christianson and Judy Moore, both of Blair, Neb., and Sherri Zwally and Carolyn Valdez, both of Marshfield, Mo.; and brother, Doug Claxton Sr. of Phoenix, Ariz.

On September 1909, William Thomas & His brother Burrill McClellan Tippy were placed in the care of Henry W. Thurston, Superintendant of the Childrens Home & Aid Society at Carterville, IL. Their parents Hosea & Fannie(Claxton)Tippy could not care for them due to poverty and illness. My great grandmother Pearl Anna Tippy who was an older sister to these boys was placed in the care of some family friends by the last name of Haley who lived in Marion, IL. Burrill McClellan Tippy was adopted by Mr & Mrs Lewis Baker of Lerna, IL. His name then became Burrill Austin Baker, He was known to me as uncle Austin. Clayton all of Roxboro.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, December 24, 2004, at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eugene Jenness and the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating.

Mr. Clayton is survived by his wife, Ruth Walker Clayton; and three daughters, Sandra C. Dickerson, Paula C. Dickerson, and Bobbie Clayton. RHEW ROXBORO - Eldred Nathaniel Rhew, 85, of 41 Hassel Clayton Rd., died Sunday, January 16, 2005, at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Person Co., he was son of the late John Ezra and Willie Garris Rhew and stepson of the late Myrtle DeBerry. Mr. Rhew retired from the US Postal Service and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and the Oak Grove Mens' Club. Mr. Rhew served in the US Army Air Corp in the Pacific during WWII. Mr. Rhew is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wiloree Clayton Rhew; one son Garris Clayton Rhew and wife Cheryl, of Duluth, GA; one grandchild, Kenda Gilbert and husband James; one stepbrother, C.B. DeBerry, of Mt. Gilead. Mr. Rhew is preceded in death by three sisters, Gertrude Clayton, Thelma Buchanan, and Shirley Parks and three brothers, Aaron Rhew, Huel Rhew, and Dennis Rhew. Funeral services will be held 2PM Tuesday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Bud Jenness and the Rev. Billy Carden. Burial will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30PM Monday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Fellowship Fund, 329 Charles St., Roxboro, Person Co, NC, 27573.
