General Notes: Husband -

Ernest Toliver Grissom, 92-year old retired farmer, died unexpectedly Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mattie Land, in Dunlalp. Funeral services were today at 2 p.m. in Love-Cantrell Chapel with Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Burial was in Long Cemetery in Van Buren County. A native of Van Buren County, Mr. Grissom was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Clark Grissom. A son of the late Phillip and Lou Simmons Grissom, he was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Land, Mrs. Elizabeth Hillis, Bone Cave, and Mrs. Maxine Sweeney, Lincoln Park, Mich., and three sons, Teron Grissom, McMinnville, Clark Grissom, Brevard, N.C., and Jimmy Grissom, Muncie, Ind. Also surviving are three brothers, A. E. Grissom, McMinnville, Harold Grissom, Spencer, and Lee Grissom, Bone Cave, two sisters, Mrs. Lela Hale, Spencer and Mrs. Bell Johnson, McMinnville, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Clarence Lloyd Clarkson Clarence Lloyd Clarkson, 66, last residing in Hopewell, Va., died Tuesday, January 27, 2004. He is survived by his son, Andrew Clarkson and daughter-in-law, Dana Clarkson of Midlothian; his daughter, Marsha Fowler and son-in-law, John Fowler of Hopewell; four grandchildren, Riggs and Tucker Clarkson, Katelynn and Sean Fowler; his friend and former wife, Delores Clarkson of Sandston; and his remaining sibling, sister, Florence Humphries of Odessa, Texas. He moved to Richmond from Electra, Texas in the 1960s after serving in the U.S. Navy. He also served as a Richmond City Police Officer and later became a salesman in several fields of expertise. He donated his remains for research in hopes of fighting lung diseases such as the one he and many of his family members had suffered from. The family is planning a memorial service for family and friends with time and place to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Eula Jinkins 1904-2003

Eula Velma Jinkins, longtime Snyder resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral service for Mrs. Jinkins, 99, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor of Colonial Hill Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Born Oct. 20, 1904 in Fannin Co, she married Clarence Jasper Jinkins on May 21, 1924 in Electra. He died June 17, 1978. Also a son, C.J. Jinkins, died Sept. 29, 1999.

A homemaker, Mrs. Jinkins had lived in Snyder for the past 25 years, moving from the Austin area. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jack Steward of Fort Worth; one son, Larry J. Jinkins of Snyder; one sister, Opal Miller of Clinton, Miss.; a daughter-in-law, Jan Jinkins of Snyder; six grandchildren, Cindy Brewster, Chris ty Waltz and Cody Jinkins, all of Snyder, Cathy Waltz of Robert Lee, Mark Steward of Kerrville and Stephen Steward of Birmingham, Ala.; and nine great-grandchildren

HEYWARD CLARKSON, RETIRED JUDGE, 84

Services for Judge N. Heyward Clarkson Jr., 84, of 1401 Heatherwood Road will be held at 3 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, is in charge.

Judge Clarkson died Friday, Aug. 25, 1995. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Nathaniel Heyward and Floride Cantey Clarkson. He attended the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He practiced law in Columbia and retired as a U.S. administrative law judge. He served as president of the Richland County Bar Association and manager of the write-in campaign to elect Strom Thurmond to the Senate upon the death of Sen. Burnet Maybank. He was a member of the 4th Circuit Court Judicial Conference, organizer and president of the Heyward Foundation, member of the Columbia Rotary Club, Columbia Lions Club, Forest Lake Country Club, St. Andrews Society, Centurion Club and was chairman of the board of Travelers Aid and president of the Columbia Cotillion Club. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, where he served as vestryman.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Westmoreland Clarkson of Columbia; sons, N. Heyward Clarkson III of Greenville and R. Westmoreland Clarkson of Winnsboro; a daughter, Eugenia Brabham of Columbia; a brother, the Rev. Allen Clarkson of Augusta; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Miller married Paul Miller Sr. on Oct. 1, 1922, in Electra, Texas. She lived in Odessa from 1966 to 1992.
