Alvis Julian Chandler

Yanceyville, NC--Alvis Julian chandler, of 246 Chandler Road, passed away Friday, February 3, 2006 at Danville Regional Medical Center, following a period of declining health. Born December 23, 1918, in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Clyde T. and Linnie M. Chandler. He worked for 30 years with AG First Farm Credit, was a veteran of World War II and a lifelong member of Yanceyville Presbyterian Church. He was married to the late Edythe Chandler. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn C. Morton and a brother, Carlton Chandler. He is survived by three sons, Joseph J. Chandler, Thomas Y. Chandler both of Blanch, and Edward Page Chandler of Summerfield; and seven grandchildren. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Februa;ry 5, 2006 at Yanceyville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harold McElroy, Pastor officiating. Graveside military rites were give by American Legion Post 89. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yanceyville Presbyterian Church, c/o Linda Watlington, P.O. His WWI draft card in 1918 says he is living in Central SC and working as a farmer for Weslean College. His wife is Addie Lea Chandler.

The 1930 census shows him and wife Addie in Deep River Township, Guilford Co NC with his 3 youngest children and his married son John and wife Cora in the home. Charles is the operator of a saw mill. His married adopted son William Jackson Chandler is living next door

Esther Cleo Newton Chandler, 91, of Colfax, N.C., died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Va.

She was a member of Shady Grove Wesleyan Church in Colfax. Private interment was held at the church cemetery.

A native of Central, daughter of the late Doc and Alma Nalley Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Chandler; six brothers, Tom, Isaac, Sam, Clark, Mac and Jacob Newton; four sisters, Ethel Childs, Mary Newton, Ina Lovelace, Beaulah Harden Warren.

Survivors: Brothers, Nathan S. Newton and his wife Lila, Easley, Tim Newton and his wife Marie, of Fayetteville, N.C.; sisters, Faith Hobson and her husband Wallace, of Northport, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the chapel of the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.
