Glenda June Reed, 65, of Harrisville, W.Va., died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at her residence.
She was born June 22, 1943, at Nutter Farm, W.Va., a daughter of the late Richard and Ruth Woofter Carder.
Glenda was a homemaker and attended the Harrison Street United Methodist Church, Harrisville.
She is survived by her husband, Elden E. Reed; two sons, Lewis E. Reed and companion, Pam Copland, of Macfarlan, W.Va., and Michael L. Reed and wife, Anita, of John's Creek, Ga.; one daughter, Angela D. Wornstaff and husband, Jeff, of Fredericksburg, Va.; four brothers, Joe Jarrell and wife, Ruth, of Harrisville, Randall Carder and wife, Mary, of Elyria, Ohio, Carl Carder and wife, Becky, of Cairo, W.Va., and Curtis Carder and wife, Pat, of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Fay Williams and husband, Buzz, of Belmont, W.Va., and Janet Cunningham and husband, Ronnie, of Newark, W.Va.; and six grandchildren, Jessica Banks and husband, Ben, Brittany Reed, Zachary Reed, Rachel Reed, Logan Wornstaff and Loran Wornstaff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Carder; and one sister, Marie Flanagan.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with the Rev. John Frum officiating. Interment will be in the Harrisville I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

M. Larry Dowling, 65, of 10 N. Garden Circle, husband of Bernadine Carey Dowling, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at his residence.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Francis T. and Charlene Manley Dowling.

Mr. Dowling was the co-owner of Greenville Furniture Exchange and attended St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children: Keith Dowling and wife, Susan, of Simpsonville, Kellie Dowling Martin and husband, Michael, of Greenville, and Kimberley Dowling Sentelle and husband, William, of Simpsonville; seven grandchildren: Ashley Martin, Kaitlin Dowling, Payton Dowling, Colin Martin, Maddie Dowling, Will Sentelle and Kolby Sentelle; 11 sisters: Patricia Gibson, Shirley Davis (Charles), Frances Kelley (Jim), Linda Henderson (Jerry), Becky Clement (Ralph), Terry Dowling, Adrienne Garrett (Charles ?Gar?), Trina Kolenich (Jim), Laurie McBryde (Keith), Debbie Howard (John), and Kathryn Gebler; and three brothers: Tommy Dowling (Donna), Jim Dowling (Carolyn) and Frank Dowling (Laura). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tim Dowling; and a brother-in-law, Joe Gibson.

CAREY, BILLIE H., 73, of Bristol, RI, formerly of Portsmouth, RI and Seekonk, MA died after a courageous two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by his loving family on January 12, 2010. He was born in Texas, the son of the late Harold and Lorene Carey of Irving, Texas.

Mr. Carey is survived by his wife Ann Kilroy Carey and his mother-in-law, Mary Amaral Kilroy, his children; Attorney Maryann Carey Murphy, husband Don , and grandsons Matthew and Brian of Portsmouth, RI; son Dr. Michael S. Carey and wife Beth, of North Attleboro, MA, and grandchildren, Aidan, Catherine Mae, and Liam; and daughter Sharon Carey Cayer and husband Michael of Seekonk, MA and granddaughter, Sydney.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 9:45am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street in Bristol, RI. Frank Forrest Hinzman, 81, of Sebastian, FL, passed away at his home December 18, 2006. Mr. Hinzman was born December 6, 1925 in Lewis County, WV and was a resident of Sebastian for 12 years, having moved from Margate, FL. He was a retired building contractor and minister. He was a member of the Elks Club, Disabled American Veterans and Lakeside Fellowship. He served in WWII in the Navy. Surviving are his wife Patricia; son Frank D. Hinzman of Sebastian, FL; daughter Mary Lamb and Ann Harris, both of Sebastian, FL; sister-in-law Marilyn Hubble, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. A memorial service will be held 7:00PM, Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Seawinds Funeral Home Chapel, 735 Fleming Street, Sebastian, FL. "Harold Glenn Tippy died Friday morning, July 28, 2006, at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was 78.
Born in New York, he lived in Mountain Lakes and Reading, Mass., before moving to the Lake Intervale section of Parsippany 35 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-1946 and was stationed in China. He graduated from Duke University in 1951. He was a member of the Boonton Kiwanis Club and was active in the Community Church of Mountain Lakes, where he served as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
He was predeceased by his children, Karen Calcagno and David Tippy.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carmela (nee Carfaro); two sons, Glenn Tippy and his wife Donna of Mountain Lakes, and Gilbert Tippy and his wife Margaret of East Norwich, N.Y.; a daughter, Christine Tippy of Rockaway; his grandchildren, Katherine Gilligan and her husband Ty, Brian Tippy, Joseph Calcagno and Glenn Tippy; and a great-granddaughter Callia Gilligan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the Community Church of Mountain Lakes. Private interment will be at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, kindly make memorial donations to the Community Church. Arrangements are with Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton. This is the history of a branch of the descendants of the Carl family. Johannes Carl is the first known ancestor of the family to arrive in America. He is listed as a passenger arriving in Philadelphia from Rotterdam on October 30, 1738 on the Ship Elizabeth. Based on the information on a Longswamp Cemetery tombstone marker of Anna Barbara, daughter of John Carl, he was a native of Nassau, Saarbrucken, Germany. He joined the pioneer settlers of what became Longswamp Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania which lies in eastern Berks County, and is bordered on the east by Lehigh County. The area, as the name implies, included a large marshy area. Fanning was the main occupation of the 18th century settlers and it remains mostly rural today.

Very little additional information has been located about the immigrant Johannes Carl other than the facts that he had a daughter Anna Barbara and a son Theobald. Anna Barbara, wife of Peter Butz, was horn on Nov. 26, 1718, and died March 6, 1795. According to her tombstone in the Longswamp Cemetery, she was married Oct. 22, 1743 and they were the parents of 3 sons and 4 daughters. Theobold Carl was born about 1720 and died Feb. 25, 1799. He was married to Anna Marie Meer and they were the parents of 3 daughters and 7 sons, namely Anna Maria, b. Jan 16, 1744, Catharine, b. July 1, 1746, Peter, b. April 11, 1748, Johannes, b. Mar. 5, 1750, Elizabeth, b. Oct. 20, 1752, George, b. Feb 10, 1754, Michael, b. March 16, 1756, Theobald, Jr, b. July 1, 1758, Jacob, b. Dec 1, 1760 and Nicolaus, b. March 15, 1764.

The next main character in our narrative is Daniel Carl. Although a search of eighteen century records has not been able to provide the names of the parents of Daniel Carl, Sr. he is believed to be a descendant of one of the above named sons of Theobald Carl. Born in 1788, he and his wife Mary resided in Longswamp Township, Berks County in 1850 with their sons David, age 28 and Henry, age 20. His occupation at that time is given as weaver. Also residing nearby are his son Daniel Carl, jr. Daniel Carl, jr. was born in 1814. On Aug 27, 1837 he married Catharine Brensinger of Longswamp Township, Berks County. The 1850 census lists Daniel and Catharine as the parents of Daniel, age 12, August, age 9, Jacob, age 6 and Charles, age 1. Daniel's occupation is listed as a shoemaker.

In 1880, Augustus Carl, the son of Daniel and Catharine, was farming and living in Oley Township, Berks County. He married Susanna Rohrbach, born about 1843, and by 1880 they were the parents of Ellen, age 15, twins Horris and Morris, age 14, Wilson, age 12, Calvin, age 10, Sallie, age 7 "and Kate Age 2. Augustus Carl fought in the battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. He and his son Augustus, jr. operated a mill at Blandon.

Morris Carl, one of the twin sons of Augustus Carl was born on Jan. 28, 1866. He operated a mill in the Hamburg area before moving to South Manheim Township, where he also operated a grist and flour mill. Morris R. Carl married Rose M. Reber who was born in 1888 in North Heidelberg Township, Berks County.

James T. is found in the 1860 IL census, Warren Co, Spring Grove township. He is age 36 and has $8425 in real estate and $3183 in personal property. James is found in the 1870 IL census, Warren Co, Spring Grove township. He is a farmer with $20200 in real estate and $7000 in personal property. The Monmouth Review of 6 April 1899 reported in the Alexis news that James Gilmore had been a business caller in Monmouth on Tuesday. The Monmouth Review of 1 August 1905 reported that J. T. Gilmore of Alexis was a Monmouth visitor that day and called at the Review office. He had been a subscriber of the Review since its first issue in 1855. He was eighty-two and had been a resident of Warren Co for seventy-two years, having come into Spring Grove township the summer of 1833. Mr. Gilmore was on his way home from a visit with his sister, Mrs. Lafferty at Seaton. His obituary is found in the Monmouth Review of 14 March 1906. James T. Gilmore died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna Irey in Monmouth on Wednesday 14 March at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 8 days, having been a resident of Warren Co for nearly 73 years. He died of heart trouble. James T. Gilmore was born 5 June 1823 in Jefferson Co, OH and was the son of Colonel Robert and Maria Gilmore. He came down the Ohio and up the Mississippi to Warren Co from OH, landing in Oquawka 13 June 1833. He bought a farm near Gerlaw when he was 25 where he lived until he moved to Alexis about 15 years before he died. He married Miss Mary C. Lair on 26 October 1846, they had five children, two died early, Marie at the age of 23 and Mary at 8 months. He was survived by Mrs. Anna Irey with whom he had been living, Mrs. Ella Stoner of near Viola and George W. Gilmore who lived on the home place. They also raised an adopted son, Sam McKahn who they raised from 8 weeks on. Mary C. died 1 March 1881. He was also survived by three brothers and two sisters, Thomas of Aledo, Lawrence H. of Monmouth, Frank of Sheridan, MO, Mrs. Rachel Armstrong of Alexis and Mrs. Bessie Lafferty of Seaton. He married for the second time, Mrs. Susan Leonard on 23 March 1897. The funeral services were held on Saturday from the Christian Church and interment was in the Mosher Cemetery

Susan J. is found in the 1860 IL census, Warren Co, Spring Grove townshi p. She is age 28. She is found in the 1870 IL census, Warren Co, Spring Grove township. She is a farmer's widow with $4000 in land and $650 in personal property. She is found in the 1877 Past and Present of Warren Co. She is a farmer on section 13, post office Alexis. A member of the Church of God, owned 80 acres. The Monmouth Review of 1 January 1897 reports that S.E. Leonard had received a telephone message at 8:30 that morning saying his mother, Mrs. J.T. Gilmore was very low with pneumonia in Alexis. He and his family and sister drove up to Alexis that morning. She is buried in the Alexis Cemetery. Her obituary is found in the Monmouth Review of 7 January 1897. Mrs. James T. Gilmore died the day before at 5:40 o'clock at her husband's home in Alexis. The disease was typhoid pneumonia and she had been seriously ill for about ten days. Her son and her daughter were sent for several days ago when the disease took a serious turn and she began to fail very rapidly. The funeral would be held the next morning in the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Gilmore was born in Perry Co, PA 26 September 1831. Her maiden name was Susan Jane Carroll. She married George Jefferson Leonard in February 1850 and they came to Warren Co four years later. Mr. Leonard died 25 March 1861 and she married James T. Gilmore 23 March 1882. They had no children and the husband still survives. By her first marriage she had eight children and six of them are still living. Silas P. Leonard, Mrs. D.W. Bert and Mary E. Leonard of Alexis, S.E. Leonard and Miss Ida Leonard of Monmouth and Mrs. Michael Muir of Milnot, North Dakota. All of the children except Mrs. Muir were present during their mother's last illness.

General Notes: Wife -

Sarah Lusetta was less than 4 years old when her mother died. Her father m arried her mother's 1st cousin in 1884 who died before 1887 when Sarah's father married a third time. She spent most of her young life with her 2nd step-mother and was always closer to her half brothers and sisters than to her other siblings. The tragedies in Sarah's life continued even after her marriage. Three of her 5 children died very young, and she was only 35 when her husband died. She and her 2 small daughters had just returned to NC from IL to find a house and get things ready. Her husband was to join them as soon as he completed a contract. Shortly after arriving in NC, she received notice that her husband had died a few days after his family left. Sarah and her 2 daughters remained in Forsyth Co, NC NOTE: The information for the death certificate for Sarah Westmoreland Carlisle was given by her daughter (my mother) Mary Levora who gave the year of Sarah's birth as 1881 and that date was inscribed on her tombstone. The 1880 census of Stokes Co, NC gives her age as 2 months. This would mean she was born April 11, 1880.
