Juanita Wheeler Alexander, age 90, died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Camellia Garden of Life Care in Thomasville, Ga. Family graveside memorial will be at a later date in Madison, with Beggs Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 7, 1918, in Madison. She attended Florida State College for Women and taught school for several years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville, Ga.
Survivors are her sister, Lilla W. Page of Thomasville, Ga.; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Ruth Ann Wheeler of Keystone Heights; sisters-in-law, Virginia Wheeler of Big Canoe, Ga., Anna Alexander Krall and husband Dr.Bob Krall of Eldredo, Penn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Juanita was preceded in death by her loving husband, William F. Alexander; two brothers, Graham V. Wheeler, Jr. and Garland E. Wheeler

General Notes: Husband -

The family lived in Scotland Co, MO until after 1891. They may have lived in southern Missoui or Nebraska, then about 1900 Grant moved with wife and seven children to Vinita, Delaware District of the Cherokee Nation (OK). The family moved to a farm near the Grand River and Strang after Sybil was born. Mabel was born on that farm, then in January 1913, Grant bought a farm two miles east of Kenwood from an Indian named Proctor.
Grant may have been a county commissioner in OK.
Jane Alexander (Roy and Harriet's daughter) living in Jefferson, Iowa, has in herpossession an old McGuffy's reader that has a letter from Grant's wife Mattie to her mother-in-law, Mary.

Obituary:

Joseph Algard 5 at Reno, NV. He is survived by his wife Alicia Nyland; father and step-mother Lorenz and Clara Algard of West Linn, OR and mother Phyllis Peterson of Reno, NV; step-sisters Lorinda Wilt, Lucinda Gulick; step-brothers Jon Williams, Martin Algard, Lorenz Algard Jr, William Surface, Alan Fisher and many nieces and nephews. He thrived in his chosen career in distribution warehouse management and is fondly remembered by his co-workers as a charismatic person with a magnetic personality who enjoyed his work but enjoyed more those who worked with him. Joe was an avid outdoors man actively participating in golf, trout and ocean fishing, dirt bike riding, snowmobiling and skeet/trap shooting. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family members. A recent highlight for Joe was a 2003 trip with his dad to explore the Algard community in Norway. Services will be held Friday June 10th at 3:30 pm at Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno NV. n 2005.)

CLARKSBURG -- Anita M. Swecker, 77, of Maple Lake, Bridgeport, died Thursday, September 9, 2004, in the Kindred Hospital at Oakdale, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Swecker was a retired secretary with the Harrison County Board of Education, with 16 years of service.
She was born in Salem, January 24, 1927, a daughter of the late Layman O. and Louia Carder Alkire.
She was married to David G. Swecker on August 10, 1946, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1990.
Surviving are one son, Mark Swecker and his wife Sandy, Bridgeport; three daughters, Bonita Swecker, Buckhannon, Sherry Panning, Hubbard, Ohio, and Kimberly Shafer and her husband Eric, Clarksville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Christopher J. Blue, Amy S. Mehr, Casey Swecker and Caitlin Swecker; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ethan and Patrick Mehr, and Brenden Blue; two brothers, French Alkire, Jacksonville, FL, and Winston (Bud) Alkire, Salem; one sister, Mrs. Jess (Donna) Hill, Little Hocking, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Swecker was Methodist by faith.

Boyle Funeral Home of Weston. Mary Madeline Alkire Heath WESTON -- Mary Madeline Alkire Heath, 79, of 501 Center Ave., Weston, died at 11:56 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston following an extended illness.

She was born September 17, 1924, in Webster Springs a daughter of the late Charles Lewis Alkire and Sadie Rebecca Spittler Alkire.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manus Heath, who died in 1985.

Surviving are three sons and daughters in law, Charles Heath and wife Lori, of Rock Cave, Manus Heath and wife Cindy, of Jane Lew and Michael Heath of Weston; two daughters, Carol Renart and Linda Maines both of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; nine grandchildren, Marc Heath, John Renart, Robert Main, Rebecca Renart, Rachael Wells, Kimberly Wade, Ryan Heath, Brittany Heath and Justin Heath; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Jayden, Cameron, Kaitlyn, Benjamin and Tyler; two sisters, Genevieve Tharp and Etta Alkire both of Weston.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Heath was retired from Lenox China in New Jersey and later worked at the Caravan Restaurant in Weston for many years.

Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Peterson Cemetery.

OBIT - DENNIS ANDREW ALKIRE, 54, died Sept. 5th in his recent home in Rosenberg, Tx. He was born to Thomas Basil and LaVelle Hawkins Alkire on Oct. 11th, 1949, in Houston, Tx. His father and sister Ella Kay Alkire preceeded him in death. Surviving Dennis are his cherished children: Morgan Thomas (in school in Orlando, Orange Co, FL), Zachary Hawkins, and Kelsey Marie Alkire in Houston. Also mourning his death are his mother LaVelle H. Alkire and sister Patricia H. Alkire of Rosenberg, Tx; his brother Thomas B. with wife Janet C. Alkire of Plano, Tx; his dear "Auntie Rie" Dossett of Terrell, TX; and his life-long friend Keith Wright of Austin, Tx. Dennis graduated in the class of '67 from Bellaire High School, and pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating a BSEE from the University of Houston main campus. He worked at first for HL & P, then for NASA for 5 years prior to becoming project engineer specializing in power distribution for the petro-chem industry projects dealing in refinery design, offshore platforms, and chemical processing plants. Dennis loved his family, especially his children. He enjoyed the outdoors and was also an accomplished target pistol marksman. He was known as the adventurous one of his family, with a real sense of fun. He back-packed in the Rocky Mountains in both U.S. and Canada, camped up the Al-Can Highway, worked with his sons' Scout troops, bowled, and remodeled his childhood home. Dennis and his brother "Tommy" enjoyed attending stock car races at the Meyer Speedway in the mid 60's and in later years the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Dennis always pulled for Terry Labonte of Corpus Christi, Tx whom he'd first seen race at Meyer Speedway. Dennis devoured hundreds of books of the science fiction genre and was also a History buff through books and many hours watching the History Channel. He had almost perfect recall from which he could relate and explain many facts of history. His recall and ability in abstract thought made mathematics and engineering natural to him and he tutored his brother "Tommy" and many others through high school and college. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 11th, 2:00 PM at the First Assembly of God, 2512 Ave N, Rosenberg, TX. The Rev. David Kent, the Rev. Dr. Jim Gill, and Rev. Deborah Prihoda will officiate, with visitation in the Fellowship Hall following. Dennis, you are loved and will be greatly missed.

Alice R. Alkire, 86, died June 14, 2004 at 12:15 p.m. in Akron, Summit Co, OHio, where she has lived for the past 1 1/2 years. She was a former resident of Fairmont.

She was born May 18, 1918, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Harvey E. and Daisy Allman Hartley. She was the last of a family of seven children.

In November 1946, she married Dennis B. Alkire, who preceded her in death February 1971.

Mrs. Alkire retired from the Fairmont Westinghouse Corp. in 1982 with 38 years of service. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church where she participated in the Seekers Sunday School class as a teacher since 1977. She was a member of the Adult Fellowship Group as well as a member of the United Methodist Women of the church. She was a volunteer at Fairmont General Hospital; a member of the Westinghouse Retiree Association; and a member of AARP. Mrs. Alkire was a graduate of Troy High School in Gilmer County.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Pa., Fla., and W.Va. as well as dear friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Genevieve Tharp Genevieve Tharp, 86, of Weston died at 10 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005 in the Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon following an extended illness. She was born November 25, 1918 in Webster Springs a daughter of the late Charlie and Becky Spitler Alkire. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Tharp. Surviving are one daughter, Lottie Mae Mason of Buckhannon; five grandchildren, Janet Warciski, William and Jeffrey Mason of Buckhannon, William and Johnny Dalrymple both of New Jersey; and one sister, Etta Alkire of Weston. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Tharp was a homemaker and member of the Victory Assembly of God. Funeral services were held Tuesday, 2 August, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Peterson Cemetery.

Mary Heath Mary Madeline Alkire Heath, 79, of 501 Center Avenue, Weston died at 11:56 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born September 17, 1924 in Webster Springs, a daughter of the late Charles Lewis Alkire and Sadie Rebecca Spittler Alkire. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manus Heath, who died in 1985.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Heath and wife, Lori of Rock Cave, Manus Heath and wife, Cindy of Jane Lew, and Michael Heath of Weston; two daughters, Carol Renart and Linda Maines, both of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; nine grandchildren, Marc Heath, John Renart, Robert Main, Rebecca Renart, Rachael Wells, Kimberly Wade, Ryan Heath, Brittany Heath and Justin Heath; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Jayden, Cameron, Kaitlyn, Benjamin, and Tyler; and two sisters, Genevieve Tharp and Etta Alkire, both of Weston.

Mrs. Heath retired from Lenox China in New Jersey and later worked at the Caravan Restaurant, Weston for many years.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 17, 2004 from the Boyle Funeral Home chapel. Interment followed in the Peterson Cemetery
