The family of Rev Thomas Whitehand originate from Essex

Thomas and his descendants went on to join the clergy after attending Cambridge.

Robert Whitehand born 1669 was an Engraver/Draughtsman.

Our family connection is through Roberts sister Mary who married Robert Ellam 1690 in Balsham, Cambridgeshire.

                      viii  Robert WHITEHAND, b. 9 May 1669, baptized 29 May 1669, Little Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire.  Occupation. (Draftsman with HM Ordnance).

                             This is the artist engraver/draftsman working in Belgium in the late 17th Century  Ryhiner Maps etc AND also as Draftsman  Tower of London fame. Robert Whitehand First draughtsman of the Ordnance Office is believed to have drawn the first Ordnance survey map in existance.

6.  Mary WHITEHAND, b. 12 Dec 1677, Little Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire, baptized 26 Dec 1677, Little Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire.  She married (1) Robert ELLAM, 29 Apr 1690, in Balsham, Cambridgeshire, b. bef 1663, Balsham, Cambridgeshire, (son of Henry ELLAM and Emma TAYLOR) baptized 12 Feb 1663, Balsham, Cambridgeshire, d. bef 1722.  She married (2) John MORLEY, bef1722.  Mary died after 1722.
