The Toms family of Winfrith, Dorset

 

The Toms family in the early years stayed in Dorset slowly they moved eastwards with one branch moving to the Isle of Wight and another to Highcliffe in Hampshire where Richard Henry Frederick TOMS b1864 married into my Frampton family, his wife being Alice Kate Frampton.

 

Winfrith Newburgh is a large parish about 8 miles south west of Wareham. The parish church id dedicated to St Christopher and was fully restored and enlarged in 1854, at this time the north aisle was added, however some Norman architectural features still remain, the most notable being the north doorway. The registers date from 1585. The manor is very ancient and originally belonged to the Newburgh family. The chapelry of Burton has been annexed to the parish.
