The Family of John PITT

My grandfather William Pitt Bull was illegitimate.

Fortunately for me his fathers name was known, although it does not appear on his birth certificate.

His mother had told him about his father at some point, as his fathers name does appear on his marriage certificate.

My aunt told me that William’s father, Sydney Pitt had died young of TB.

So armed with this information I managed to trace his death certificate and then his family.

I do not know a great deal, as records in London are difficult to find as many are lost or damaged.

But from the information I have so far gathered Sydney’s family did well for themselves after starting off in the silk weaving industry.

Sydney’s father, James had started work as a Weaver following in his parents trade, as a lot of the people of East London were in the weaving trade at that time.

However with the changing times James at some point made the decision to become a Photographer. Both his wife and son followed in the Profession.  Their business was in Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, London, from 1857 till the early 1900’s.
