Mary died 7 Jul 1945, Christchurch,
Hampshire. Mary Ann was born in
Lytchett Matravers and lived there with here first husband Charles Batt until
his death. She then married William
James Edward Burbidge shortly after his first wife’s death. They continued to live in a cottage called
"Rats Castle" Lytchett Matravers, where their children were born.
William was a soldier in the Dorset Regiment.
He died in 1917 of heart problems. Mary moved to Poole some time after
William’s death. Mary Ann Burbidge was listed on the Poole St Index 1918-1920
residing at 6 West Street Poole. Olive Cutler (nee Burbidge) describes playing
on the spiral steps of the Customs House Poole when they were very young.
Sometime around 1919 they moved to Bloxworth in Dorset. Mary's granddaughter,
Dora Batt was born there c1921. About 1923 Mary married Christopher Smith, who
took the family to live in Ripley. They lived in a house next to the school.
Mary's stepdaughter Ethel Matilda married from here in 1924. The family then
moved to Sopley. Eventually moving to Christchurch in 1938 where she lived till
her death in 1945.
