School Land Petition – May 11, 1847

              This day came Robert Selvedge who has heretofore been appointed Commissioner by the County Court of Monroe County to take and ascertain the sense of the voters in fractional Township 3^rd, Range 3^rd East of the meridian Hiwassee District and 5^th Civil district of Monroe County in reference to the sale of the school lands situate therein and presented & filed a list of said electors which is in the words & figures following viz:

State of Tennessee Monroe County} The undersigned Commissioners of the school land for fractional Township 3^rd District no. 5 for the county of Monroe do hereby certify that he has proceeded to obtain the signatures of the voters for and against the sale of the school land and in said Township and that the persons in favor of the sale of said land constitute a majority of all the voters residing in said district.
