During a heavy enemy attack he displayed great disrespect for his personal safety,walking up and down his line and cheering his men under heavy machine gun fire. He maintained his line of resistance by organising and leading a successful counter attack. Some days later he again displayed great coolness and inspired his men with such confidence that they held up a very heavy attach for two hours until outflanked.2
