Robert Robinson

Robert Robinson was born about 1746 in Sheffield. Robert was a silversmith.  He became a partner in the firm Daniel Holy & Co from 1st January 1783 when he and Robert Frederick Wilkinson joining the existing partners of George Woodhead and Daniel Holy. The firm Daniel Holy and Co manufactured silverware including coffee pots, cruet frames and candlesticks.  This partnership ran until 1st January 1790 when a new fourteen year agreement was entered into. At the end of this period Robert Wilkinson and Robert Robinson left Daniel Holy & Co and went into partnership with James Drabble, Henry Mylins, George Battie and Alexander Goodwin Turner. They registered the mark below on 3 January 1805.  The partnership was dissolved in May 1810 after which their name's do not appear in the Silver Register.

Robert Robinson's Will made on 27 January 1814 records him as a gentleman of Bridgehouses in the parish of Sheffield. His Will mentions  four sons - Richard, George, Jonathan and Charles and a daughter Sarah. He also mentions his son in law Jonathan Marshall the husband of his deceased daughter Sarah as well as the two children of Sarah and Jonathan. His wife Sarah was also living in 1814. She was to receive the income derived from dividends and interest as well as the "household furniture and matters of housekeeping to use and enjoy during her natural life".  No mention is made of his children Ann, John or Mary and it is likely that they had died before this date.

Robert died on 18 August 1815. The burial register for Sheffield Cathedral records that he was a silver plater of Bridgehouses, Brightside Bierlow, aged 69.
