Lived on the estate of Toddstown in MIC 637/2 hodgepodge - gives family pedigree and his birth date as 1691; listed on rent roll of Saintfield Estate in 1751 as of Tullywest
Book of McKee, p 119 states that James McKee of Tullywest, son of Hugh, born ca 1695, had 20 children, many of whom migrated to Pennsylvania. However, it only names David, James, Hugh, and John.
Copy of booklet from Frank Fox, 229 Belfast Road, Ballynahinch, county Down, No Ireland BT248UP states: "The oldest of these [children of the pioneer] was probably James, who settled about a mile from the old homestead, in Tullywest, near where the national school-house now stands. Tradition affirms that he was the father of twenty children, and that he lived to be one hundred and twenty years old. This may or may not be true, but we feel reasonably certain that the McKee pioneers of western Pennsylvania were his children and grandchildren. Out of the alleged twenty we have positive knowledge of only four..."
Register of Freeholders lists McKee James of Tullywestnacoona in the County of Down 1790
Deputy Court Cheque Book Downe May 1790 D654/A3/1B lists James McKee - 1755 Carrickmaderow (lives along with Jas his son - lease ____ he gave over his rights to son who took out a new lease - Jas his son says he has no freehold in any lands here) [James' son Thomas seems to have taken over the Carrickmadderow lands.]
