The Book of McKee lists Anabel as a widow with three sons who assist Robert the Bruce and are given property in Kirkcudbright; sons are M'Kie, M'Clurg, and Muiredach - also in The Book of Mackay
History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway by P.H. M'Kerlie FHL 941.49 H2m 1994 states that M'Kie obtained the land afterwards formed into the barony called Larg. The earliest record of the name in Galloway is about 1330, in a payment for the relief of their land in Wigtown. "We think it not improbable"..."that the Mackays of Sutherlandshire and the M'Kies of Galloway are one and the same family." Although the other two half brother's surnames appear in the Ragman Roll, M'Kies do not.
On Page 411 the text states that Robert the Bruce granted to Gilberti fil Nigelli, a charter of terram (tertiam?) partem terre de Cameleden. He was brother to John, who obtained Craigcaffie, parish of Lochryan, as the next entry is "Johannis, fil Nigelli et Carricke, terre de Kellechaffe in Gallovidia." Hence, the name of the M'Kie who obtained Craigcaffie from King Robert de Bruce was John, and his Murdoch half-brother was Neil, who was the father of Gilbert.
