FHL "The Mackays of Strathnaver," pg 305a; Temple dates from Ordinance Index; has his father as Angus, son of Iye
Book of McKee p 288 states: "Huistean Du (Mackay), who became tutor to his youthful nephew, Angus Du, on his father's death, offended the widowed mother, whether justly or unjustly we cannot say. The relations between the two became so strained that her brother, Malcolm (Macleod), son of Torquil MacLeod of the Lews and Assynt, invaded Strathnaver with a body of men laying waste to part of that country as well as Brae-Chat. Macleod was overtaken by the Mackays at a place now called Tuiteam Tarvach, in Strathoikel, making his way back to Assynt encumbered with spoil, and there was defeated and slain about 1406.
Blackcastle Manuscript pg 13 states: "Hugh, the third son of Hugh Mackay of Strathnaver had the appelation of Hutcheon Dow Mackay as being of dark complexion and to distinguish him from his father who was of the same name. During the minority of his Nephew Angus, he governed Strathnaver, and in the discharge of his duty, fell into a quarrel with his Nephew's Maternal Uncle Malcolm Macleod of Lewis, which ended in a conflict with the Macleods in 1406 when Malcolm McLeod and several others of his party were slain."
