[9485] Some Notes Upon the Mackays of the Rhinns of Islay by Lieut-Col Gayre of Gayre and Nigg, Minard Castle, by Inveraray, Argyll, Scotland - at the National Library of Scotland H381.3606 - "Excommunication (social as well as religious boycott) was pronounced against the Macdonalds, and among these we find Duncan Mackay in Cronibeg and his son Adam [1647]." Adam would need to have been of age and of the ruling family.

The Mackays of Strathnaver pg 197 (929.241 M192M Pt 1; dsp; Hugh was bright, sharp fellow, foremost in sports and fond of music; had an accident, hurting the head and brain so seriously that he eventually became fatuous; his 3 uncles were appointed curators of his affairs: Hugh of Bighouse, George of Skibo, and General Alexander.

[3671] The Book of Mackay pg 334; Blackcastle p 112; FHL Caithness Family History 941.13 D2h pg 134-5 states he married his cousin, Jessie, daughter of William Sinclair Wemyss of Southdun, and had issue, thirteen sons and four daughters, of whom eight sons and three daughters survived him. He died at Forss, 1st March 1876, aged 73.
