Book of Mackay pg 315; precept of Clare Constat 10 Jan 1679; had sasine of Skerray 7 Mar 1679 as heir to his deceased brother John
Blackcastle p 128a states: "To prevent any misconception hereafter regarding the descendants of this family of Skerray, we ought to notice that there existed much about the same period with this Hector, another Gentleman of the same name of Hector Mackay [son of Major Iye of Tongue--2nd wife] whose son James afterwards got possession and had sasine on the lands of Skerray where he continued to reside till his death in 1797. This last mentioned Hector had also a brother Hugh, who made a Testament at Courtray in the Netherlands in 1715, and died before 1720. By his settlement he appears to have been a native of Durness and most probably of the Scoury family, as he left L30 stg. for books to that parish, and also, beside other sums, he left about L400 stg. to his brother Hector, who accordingly had sasine for that sum as follows: 3rd Jany. 1721. Compeared personally upon the ground Hector Mackay, brother german to the now deceased Hugh Mackay, Captain in Lieut. Genl. Murray's Regiment, for himself, and as attorney for Janet Mackay his spouse, and John Mackay, their eldest son, and having in his hand an heritable Bond and Obligation granted by George Lord Reay, for infefting the said Hector, and his foresaids, in the lands of Ribbigill and Kinlochbeg for the sum of L400 stg. Bond dated 18th Feby. 1720.
