Book of McKee pg 404 was king 26 years from 379 to 405; Page 395 states in the year 405 during one of Niall's raids on Britain, a captive boy named Patricius was taken back to Ireland, along with his sister. He later became known as St. Patrick. That year Niall was tracherously slain by Eochaidh, son of Enna Ceinnseallach, at Murir n-Icht, that is the sea between France and England. Other authorities say he was slain in Gaul on the banks of the Loire.
A Guide to Irish Roots, pg II-45 states Niall was "of the Nine Hostages."
Womack Genealogy, One Hundred fifty Generations Removed from the First Man and Woman, www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/6277 calls him Niall Mor, known as Niall of the nine Hostages, 126th
Monarch of Ireland
Descendents of Duncan I the Gracious, King of Scotland, report created 19 Mar 2001 from http://www.geocities.com/craigs_kahunas/report_duncan.htm states Nial was 126th Monarch of Ireland, was christened (crowned) 445 and was killed by kin in the English Channel in 453...Nial played a great part in breaking down Roman power in Britain and France between the years of 379 and 406...Niall is considered the beginning of the surname O'Neill..."Niall of the Nine Hostages" is from the royal hostages taken from nine countries by him subdued and made tributary: viz, 1. Munster, 2. Leinster, 3. Conacht, 4. Ulster, 5. Britain, 6. the Picts, 7. the Dalriads, 8. the Saxons, and 9. the Morini -- a people of France, towards Calais and Piccardy; whence he marched with his victorious army...further into France...and, encamping on the river Leor (now called Lianne), was, as he sat by the river side, treacherously assassinated by Eocha, son of Enna Cinsalach, king of Leinster, in revenge...The spot on the Leor (not "Loire") where this Monarch was murdered is still called the "Ford of Niall," near Boulogne-sur-mer. It was in the ninth year of his reign that St Patrick was first brought into Ireland, at the age of 16 years, among two hundred children brought by the Irish Army out of Little Brittany. He named Scotland "Scotia Minor" rather than "Alba," as it had been called.
