Advocate's Library MSS. 1450 records the genealogy as Farquhar, son of Ivor, son of Gilchrist, son of Gillespie, son of Gillananeamh, son of Gilchrist, son of Cormac, son of Gillamichael, son of Aidh for the Clan Aid, which some have concluded is the Kintyre family of the Mackays. The "Book of Mackay" states that the first three generations (of this pedigree) may be correctly recorded, but beyond that it does not seem to us of much if any value. (p 360)
Blackcastle Manuscript, pg 9, also verifies and documents the above.
FHL "Book of McKee," pg 305a; Physician to Robert II (1371-90) - his descendants a quo Clan Erchar; on 31 Dec 1386 King Robert II bestowed by charter on "our beloved and faithful Farquhar the leech" the islands lying around the Strathnaver coast. He had a gift 4 Sep 1379 from Alexr. Stewart, Lord of Badenoch, of the lands of Melness and Hope, which the king confirmed by charter the same day.
In 1504 Iye Roy of Strathnaver had nonentry of these lands, and seven years after purchased from Donald M'Corrochy, "as discendit fra farquhar Leiche," all rights over Melness and Hope." In 1624 the 1st Lord Reay bought the remaing portion, to wit, the Little Isles of Strathnaver, from William M'Callan (a M'ky descendant).
